Bears split doubleheader with St. Louis Archers

The Baton Rouge Bears and the St. Louis Archers opened a four game weekend series, this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field. The Bears and the Archers would split the opening day of the series with the Bears winning game one 7-3 and the Archers winning game two 3-0.

Game One:

A solid complete game pitching performance by Bears' pitcher Gavin Green propels them to the 7- 3 game one victory over the St. Louis Archers.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first with a run, in the second inning, to grab the early lead. Braxton Gallet, who reached by being hit by a pitch, would steal second and then score on a Tristan Frederick single to left field for the Bears first run of the game. The Archers would tie the game, in the top of the third, with a run. Baton Rouge would respond to retake the lead, in the bottom of the third, with 3 runs.  Ethan Menard would lead off the inning with a triple to centerfield. Jacob Dunn would single to centerfield scoring Menard. Blaise Foote would then hit a double advancing Jacob Dunn to third base. Braxton Gallet would drive in Dunn and Foote with a single to right field.  After three innings, the Bears led 4-1. The Archers would inch closer with a run, in the fourth, inning;4-2. In the fifth inning, the Bears would scratch across run. William Dunn would lead off with a double to right field and score on a sac fly by Braxton Gallet.  The Archers continued to grind, and they would add another run in the sixth inning. The Bears would respond and add two insurance runs in the sixth inning.  Tristan Frederick would lead off the sixth with a single to left field, Brit Jordan would lay down a sac bunt advancing Frederick to second and Ethan Menard would single to centerfield putting runners at the corners for the Bears.  William Dunn would follow with a sac fly scoring Frederick. Ethan Menard would score on a balk by the Archer's pitcher.  After six innings, the Bears led 7-3.  Gavin Green would continue to pitch for the Bears, and he would get himself into a bit of trouble in the seventh but would eventually shut the door on the Archers' rally with two strikeouts and a ground out to end the game.

Gavin Green got the start and the complete game seven inning victory for the Bears. Gavin pitched seven innings allowing 3 runs on 10 hits while striking out 5 and walking only 1. N. Garcia took the loss for the Archers. He pitched five innings allowing 5 runs on 10 hits while striking out 3.

Baton Rouge outhit St. Louis 13 to 10. Neither team committed an error in the ballgame.

Bears Game One Highlights:

Ethan Menard went 3 for 4 with 2 runs

William Dunn went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Jacob Dunn went 3 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Blaise Foote went 1 for 3 with 1 BB and 1 run

Braxton Gallet went 1 for 1 with 1 run and 3 RBIs

Tristan Frederick went 2 for 2 with 1 BB and 1 RBI

Brit Jordan went 1 for 2

 

Game Two:

The St. Louis Archers used a stellar pitching performance by J. Hackmann to earn the game two 3-0 victory over the Bears.

The St. Louis Archers would get on the board first with two runs, in the fourth inning. The Baton Rouge Bears struggled to find some consistency at the plate all game long.  The Archers would tact on another run, in the sixth inning, to take a 3-0 lead. The game was truly highlighted by both teams pitching staff keeping the other team off balanced at the plate all game long.  Both teams' pitchers combined to strike 20 people out in the ball game. (8 for the Archers, 12 for the Bears)

J. Hackmann earned the victory for the Archers. He pitched seven innings allowing 0 runs on 5 hits while striking out 8. Teddy Webb took the loss for the Bears. Teddy pitched seven innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 12 Archers.

Both teams would tally 5 hits and Baton Rouge would commit one error in the ballgame.

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Jacob Dunn went 2 for 3

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 3

Trey Webb went 1 for 2 with 1 BB

Braden Keen went 1 for 2

 

With the split, the Bears improve to 6-9, while St. Louis improves to 2-4 on the season.

The Bears and the Archers will conclude their four-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow Sunday February 20 starting at 12 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
