Comeback Bears for the Sweep !

The Baton Rouge Bears bounced back from their Saturday night loss to the Galveston Whitecaps to grind their way to two comeback victories this afternoon at Bernard Davis Stadium.  The Bears win game one 4 to 3 in eight innings and take game two 8 to 4.

Game one

The Bears would get on the board first with a run in the third inning. Nick Carriere would walk, steal second and score on a Jacob Dunn single to right field for the Bears first run of the game. The Whitecaps would tie the game, in the bottom of the third, with a lead off solo homer by J. Bissaillon.  After three innings, the game was tied at 1. The Bears would add a run in the fourth inning. Braxton Gallet and Grant Landry would hit back to back singles and Gallet would score on a Whitecaps' error. Again, the Whitecaps would respond but this time, they would take the lead on a two-run homer by N. Sparks to left field.  After four innings, the Whitecaps led 3-2. The Bears would tie the game in the fifth, with back to back singles by Lane Hutchinson and Blaise Foote. Alex Guilbeau would walk to load the bases. Lane Hutchinson would steal home to tie the game at 3.  The game would be tied after seven innings and would head to extra innings. The Bears would lead off the eighth with a single by Blaise Foote. Case Roark would replace Foote as a pinch runner. Alex Guilbeau would lay down a sac bunt to move Roark to second. Roark would advantage to third when he tagged up on the Ethan Menard fly out. Roark would then score the Bears winning run on a wild pitch. Caden Akana would shut down the Whitecaps, in the eighth, to preserve the Bears 4 to 3 victory in game one of today's doubleheader.

Teddy Webb started on the mound for the Bears. Teddy pitched five and two-thirds innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4. Caden Akana earned the win in relief for the Bears. Caden pitched two and one-third innings allowing 0 runs on 1 hit.

Bears Game One Highlights:

Jacob Dunn went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI

William Dunn went 1 for 4

Lane Hutchinson went 1 for 4 with 1 run

Blaise Foote went 2 for 4

Braxton Gallet went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Grant Landry went 1 for 3

Nick Carriere had 1 run

 

Game Two:

The Bears would score five runs in the top of the seventh inning, this afternoon, to secure the comeback victory. The Bears would defeat the Whitecaps 8 to 4 in the series finale.

Galveston would get on the board first with 3 runs, in the second inning. N Sparks would hit a triple scoring two runs and then he would score on a sac fly by A. Trevino.  The Bears would get on the board, in the third inning, when Trey Webb would lead off with a solo homer to left field.  After three innings, the Whitecaps led 3-1.  The Whitecaps would extend their lead in the bottom of the third inning, when A. Villalobos would lead off with a homer to left field.  After three innings, the Whitecaps led 4-1. The Bears would scratch across a run in the fifth inning. Tristan Frederick led off with a double to left field and scored on a Trey Webb single up the middle. After five innings, the Bears trailed 4-2.  The Bears would scratch across another run in the sixth inning, when Braxton Gallet, who reached on an infield single would score on another double by Tristan Frederick. At the end of six, the Whitecaps led 4 to 3.  The Bears would take advantage of some inconsistent pitching by the Whitecaps to load the bases in the seventh inning. Trey Webb was hit by a pitch, Braden Keen and Jacob Dunn would both walk to load the bases. Lane Hutchinson would follow and be hit by a pitch scoring Webb. Braxton Gallet would reach on a bunt single driving home another run. Ethan Menard would then follow with a three-run homer to left field to cap off the Bears five run inning.  The Bears would take an 8 to 4 lead into the bottom of the seventh. Ethan Prescott would get some help from his defense, in the seventh, as they would turn a double play to get out of the inning and secure the 8 to 4 comeback victory.

Galveston outhit Baton Rouge 9 to 7. Each team committed an error in the ball game.

Drew Blanchard started on the mound for the Bears, Drew pitched four innings allowing 4 runs on 8 hits while striking out 2. Ethan Prescott earned the victory for the Bears. Ethan pitched 3 innings in relief allowing 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 2.

 

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Braden Keen had 2 BB and 1 Run

Lane Hutchinson had 1 run, 1 BB and 1 RBI

Braxton Gallet went 2 for 4 with 2 Runs and 1 RBI

Ethan Menard went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 3 RBIs and 1HR

Tristan Frederick wet 2 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Trey Webb went 2 for 2 with 2 runs, 2 RBIs and 1 HR

 

With the pair of victories, the Baton Rouge Bears improve to 4-7, while the Galveston College Whitecaps fall to 3-7.

The Bears will return to action on Tuesday February 15, 2022, as they travel to Perkinston, Mississippi to take on the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs in a doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
