Bears lose to #4 Pearl River in first road outing

The Baton Rouge Bears traveled to Poplarville, Mississippi to take on #4 Pearl River Wildcats, this afternoon, in a doubleheader at Dub Herring Park.  The Bears could not slow down the high-powered offense of the Wildcats as they drop a pair of games. In game one the Wildcats defeated the Bears 11 to 1, in a seven-inning mercy rule, and they would defeat the Bears 5 to 0 in the night cap.

Game one:

The Baton Rouge Bears could not control the high-powered offense of the Pearl River Community College Wildcats as they drop game one of the doubleheaders 11 to 1, in seven innings at the Dub Herring Park.

Pearl River would get on the board first with a run, in the second inning, to take the early lead in which they would not relinquish.  The Wildcats would add to their lead with a 2-run homer by Parker, in the third inning, to take a 3-0 lead. Pearl River would score four runs, in the fifth inning, three of those runs were via homeruns. The Bears would finally get on the board, in the sixth inning, when Lane Hutchinson would lead off with a homer to left field.   Pearl River would tact on three more runs, in the sixth, and one run, in the seventh, to complete the 11 to 1 victory over the Bears.

Lee earned the victory for the Wildacts.  He pitched five innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits while striking out 3.  John Shahrdar took the loss for the Bears. John pitched five innings allowing 10 runs on 10 hits while striking out five. Luke Evans and Mason Long pitched in relief for the Bears.

Pearl River outhit Baton Rouge 13 to 3. Baton Rouge committed 2 errors in the ballgame.

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Blaise Foote went 1 for 3

Lane Hutchinson went 2 for 2 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 Homerun

 

Game Two:

Baton Rouge Bears struggled at the plate for the second straight game against Pearl River.  The Bears could not slow down the Pearl River bats as they were defeated 5-0, in game two of today's doubleheader.

Pearl River would get on the board, in the second inning, via a leadoff homer by D. Donaldson.  The Wildcats would tact on another run, in the inning, to increase their lead to 2-0 after two innings.  In the third inning, the Bears would get some traffic on the base paths when Lane Hutchinson would lead off with a single to centerfield and Trey Webb would walk. The Bears would run themselves out the inning as Hutchinson was caught stealing home for the third out. Pearl River would add a run to their lead in the bottom of the third;3-0. The Wildcats would add 2 more runs in the fourth via a solo homer by A. Perry and a T. Parker single would drive in another run to make it 5-0 after four innings.  The Bears would threaten, in the fifth inning, when they would load the bases when Britt Jordan was hit by a pitch and Trey Webb and Blaise Foote would walk but both would be stranded. Again, in the seventh, the Bears would load the bases but come up empty.  Lane Hutchinson would lead off with a single followed by a Tristan Frederick walk and a Britt Jordan single but back-to-back strikeouts and a fly out would seal the Bears fate and the 5-0 loss to the Pearl River Wildcats.

Pearl River outhit Baton Rouge 10 to 3. Neither team committed an error in the ball game.

Leif Moore earned the victory for the Wildcats. He pitched three and two-thirds innings allowing 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 2. Slade Zeppuhar earned the loss for the Bears. Slade pitched three innings allowing 5 runs on 8 hits while striking out 3. Ethan Prescott and Caden Akana pitched in relief for the Bears.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Lane Hutchinson went 2 for 3

Britt Jordan went 1 for 2

 

With the victories the Pearl River Wildcats improve to 2-0, while Baton Rouge falls to 2-6.

The Bears will return to action this Saturday February 12 as they start a three-game series with Galveston College in Galveston, Texas.  First game is Saturday at 6 pm, followed by a Sunday doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
