Bears drop a pair of games  to Bossier Parish

The Baton Rouge Bears had to make some changes to their weekend plans as the weather conditions in Texas forced them to change their weekend opponent.  Bossier Parish Cavs were in the same boat, as they Bears, with the weather conditions forcing them to drop out of the Galveston tournament, thus a three game series was created between the two in state schools. Bossier Parish would win the first two games of this three-game series. Bossier wins game one 4-2, in ten innings and take game two 15-2 in six inning mercy rules.

Game One:

Game one was a battle between the two-ball club on this sunny afternoon at Pete Goldsby. The first seven innings was a pitching duel between Green and Saint Pierre which led the game into extra innings.  Bossier would score two runs, in the top of the tenth inning, to secure the 4 to 2 victories.

Baton Rouge would get on the score board first, in the second innings, when Braxton Gallet would hit a triple to center field and score on a deep sac fly by Alex Guilbeau. Bossier would get on the board, in the third inning, with two runs via a double by A. Makarus. The Bears would tie the ball game, in the fourth inning, via a homerun by Trey Webb to left field.  After four innings,  the game was tied at 2 apiece. The game would be tied for the next three innings leading to extra innings. Both teams would go to their bullpens and their bullpens would hold the other scoreless till the tenth inning. Bossier would start the tenth inning with a single by A. Cazolra and a walk by G. Cabrera.  C. Ketzner would hit a double to centerfield driving in two runs to take a 4 to 2 lead.  In the bottom of the tenth the Bears would get a runner on but would leave him stranded thus falling to the Cavs 4 to 2 in 10 innings.

Trevor Wall pitched the Cavs to the victory in relief. He pitched three innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits while striking out 1. Zach Saint Pierre started on the mound for the Cavs. Zach pitched seven innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits while striking out 8. John Shahrdar earned the lost for the Bears. John pitched two innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. Gavin Green started on the mound for the Bears. Gavin pitched eight innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4.

Bossier Parish outhit Baton Rouge 9 to 4 and neither team committed an error in the ball game.

Bears Game One Highlights:

Trey Webb wet 1 for 4 with 1 run, 1RBI and 1 homerun

Braxton Gallet went 1 for 4 with 1 run and 1 triple

Tristan Frederick went 1 for 3

Jacob Dunn went 1 for 2

Gavin Green pitched 8 innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4.

 

Game Two:

Baton Rouge Bears could not slow down the high-powered offense of the Bossier Parish Cavs, in game two, of this three game series.  Bossier Parish would out hit Baton Rouge 13 to 5 enroute to the 15 to 2, six inning run rule victory.

Bossier Parish would get on the board first with 7 runs, in the second inning, to take the early 7-0 lead.  Baton Rouge would scratch across a run, in the third inning, when Brit Jordan would lead off the inning with a double, advance to third on a pass ball and score on a Jacob Dunn sac bunt to the pitcher.  After three innings, the Bears trailed 7-1.  Bossier would add  4 more runs, in the fourth inning, to take an 11 to 1 lead.  The Bears again would respond and scratch across a run, in the bottom of the fourth. Braxton Gallet would lead off with an infield single and advance to second on a fielding error.  Gallet would advance to third on a wild pitch and score on a Zach Martin's sac fly to center field.  After four innings, the Bears trailed 11 to 2.  The Cavs would tact on 4 more runs, in the six innings, to secure the 15 to 2 six inning run rule victory.

Bossier Parish out hit Baton Rouge 13 to 5.  Bossier committed one error in the ball game.

Seth Gurr earned the victory for the Cavs. He pitched 3 innings allowing 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 3. Teddy Webb earned the loss for the Bears. Teddy pitched one and two-thirds innings allowing 7 runs on 4 hits while striking out one. Grant Landry, Alex Norris, Ethan Menard, and Sean Burkhead all pitched in relief for the Bears.

 

Bears Game Two Highlights:

William Dunn went 1 for 2 with 1 BB

Trey Webb went 1 for 2

Braxton Gallet went 2 for 3 with 1 run

Zach Martin had 1 RBI

Britt Jordan went 1 for 2 with 1 run

Jacob Dunn had 1 RBI

 

With the pair of victories, Bossier Parish improve to 5-0, while Baton Rouge falls to 1-4 on the young season. 

 

These two ball clubs will square off again tomorrow Monday February 7 as they conclude their three-game series with a 1 pm game at Pete Goldsby Field.
