Bears Baseball loses a pair of 9-7 games to the Dolphins

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Delgado Dolphins continued their conference series this afternoon at Brusly High school with a pair of games.  Baton Rouge would be swept by Delgado in a pair of 9-7 victories.

Game One:

A late rally by the Dolphins propels them to a 9 to 7, game one victory over the Baton Rouge Bears.

The Bears would get on the board first, in the first, when Nathan Beyer would double to right field scoring Veillon who reached on a single. After one, the Bears led 1 to 0. Delgado would score four runs, in the third inning, to take a 4 to 1 lead. Baton Rouge would retake the lead, in the bottom of the third inning, with 5 runs. Nathan Carriere would single up the middle driving home LeBourgeois, who walked for the Bears first run of the frame. Nathan Beyer would single to right field driving in Crifasi and Carriere to tie the game at 4 apiece.  Zach Martin would break the tie with a single to left field driving in a run. Parker Autry would then hit a double up the middle driving in the Bears fifth run of the frame.  After three innings, the Bears led 6 to 4. Delgado would scratch closer with a solo homer by Lambert to lead off the fifth inning. The Bears would add a run, in the bottom of the fifth, when Gage Breithaupt would single up the middle scoring Veillon who led off the inning with an infield single.  After five, the Bears led 7 to 5. Delgado would take the lead, in the sixth inning, when Leblanc would pinch hit and hit a three-run homer to centerfield.  After six, Delgado led 8 to 7. Delgado would add an insurance run, in the seventh inning; 9 to 7.  The Bears had their chances in the last two innings but could not scratch across a run thus losing game one 9 to 7.

Zane Zeppuhar earned the victory for the Delgado Dolphins. He pitched four innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 3. Peter Holden started the game for the Bears and lasted five and two-thirds innings. Peter allowed 7 runs on 8 hits while striking out 6. Blaine Hardy took the loss for the Bears. Blaine pitched one and one-third innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 1.

Baton Rouge outhit Delgado 12 to 11. Baton Rouge was credited with 2 errors in the ball game.

 

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Cody Crifasi went 2 for 4 with 1 run.

Nathan Carriere went 2 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

William Veillon went 3 for 4 with 3 runs.

Nathan Beyer went 2 for 2 with 1 run and 3 RBIs.

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI.

Zach Martin went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.

Parker Autry went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.

 

Game 2:

Baton Rouge Bears comeback would fall short as they would be defeated by the Delgado Dolphins, in game two, by the final score of 9-7.

The Bears and the Dolphins struggled to get anything going in the first three innings of this evening ball game.  Delgado would finally breakthrough, in the fourth inning, with a run via a Boone homer to left field.  Delgado would extend their lead, in the fifth inning, via a two-run homer by Lege. The Bears bats would come alive, in the fifth inning, with three runs to tie the ball game. Deionte Norris would lead off with a walk and score on a Karius Joseph single to right field. Nathan Carriere would double to left field scoring Guilbeau who reached on an error for the Bears second run. The Dolphins would intentionally walk William Veillon to face Nathan Beyer who would single to left field scoring Carriere to tie the ball game at three apiece.  Delgado would retake the lead with three runs, in the sixth inning. The Bears would get one of those runs back when they would load the bases with back to back singles by Alex Guilbeau and Tristan Frederick and a walk by Karius Joseph.  Nathan Carriere would walk with the bases loaded scoring a run.  Delgado would lead off the seventh inning with another Boone homer to extend their lead to 7 to 4. The Dolphins would extend their lead, in the eighth, via a two-run homer by Joubert; 9-4. Baton Rouge would respond in the eighth inning with a leadoff homer by Gage Breithaupt. After eight innings, the Bears trailed the Dolphins 9 to 5.  Baton Rouge would continue to fight till the end by scoring 2 runs in the ninth, but it was not enough as they would fall to the Dolphins 9 to 7. In the ninth inning, Zach Martin would single and score on a Parker Autry double to right field. Autry would score on a Deionte Norris single to left field.

 

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

 Karius Joseph went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI and 1 BB.

Nathan Carriere went 2 for 4 with 1 Run, 1 BB and 2 RBIs

Nathan Beyer went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI.

Zach Martin went 1for 1 with 1Run.

Parker Autry went 2 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.

Deionte Norris went 1 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.

Alex Guilbeau went 1 for 3 with 1 Run.

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 2 with 1 Run, 1 RBI and 1 HR

Tristan Frederick went 2 for 3.

 

With the victories Delgado improves to 26-11, 9-3 in conference play, while Baton Rouge falls to 23-21, 7-5 in conference play.

 

The Bears will continue their 6 games in 3 days with a pair of games against conference foes the Nunez Pelicans tomorrow Wednesday April 21, 2021.  The first game will start at 5 pm at Live Oak High School.
