Bears Baseball splits with Nunez Pelicans

Baton Rouge Bears and the Nunez Pelicans squared off on the diamond at Live Oak High School for a pair of conference games this afternoon. Nunez would win game one's low scoring affair 3 to 2 while the Bears would take the nightcap 8 to 5.

 

Game One:

Nunez would score early and hold off a late rally by the Bears to take a 3 to 2 game one victory.

Nunez would score first with a run, in the first inning, to grab the early lead. The Pelicans would add to their lead with a run, in the second inning, to take a 2-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second, the Bears would score a run when Zach Martin would single up the middle driving in Nathan Beyer would lead off with a double to right field. After two innings, Nunez led 2 to 1.  In the fourth inning, Nunez would increase their lead when H Boudreaux would hit a solo homer to left field. In the fifth inning, the Bears would manufacture a run when Karius Joseph would reach on a fielder's choice, advance to third when he tagged on a William Dunn fly ball and steals home for the Bears second run of the game.  That is all the Bears would score as the Nunez Pelicans would hold the Bears scoreless over the last two innings to earn the 3 to 2 victory.

Jaden Brasseaux earned the victory for the Pelicans. He pitched seven innings allowing 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6.Hayden Sills took the loss for the Bears. Hayden pitched three innings allowing 2 runs on 1 hit. Cole Harper and Hunter Dupuy pitched in relief for the Bears.

Baton Rouge outhit Nunez 6 to3. Baton Rouge was credited with one error in the ballgame.

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Nathan Carriere went 2 for3.

Nathan Beyer went 1 for 3 with 1 Run.

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 3. 

Zach Martin went 1 for 1 with 1 RBI.

 

Game Two:

Batons Rouge Bears would rally and score late to defeat the Nunez Pelicans 8 to 5, in game two of today's doubleheader.

For the first three innings neither team could get anything going on the offensive end. Nunez would break through, in the fourth inning, with three runs. The Bears would respond with four runs, in the bottom of the frame, to take a 4 to 3 lead. William Veillon would single to left field scoring Foote, who walked to lead off the inning, for the Bears first run of the ball game. Nathan Carriere would walk with the bases loading driving in the Bears second run of the frame. Cameron Lewis would hit a sac fly scoring Dunn, who walked to tie the game at three apiece. Veillon would steal home to give the Bears a 4 to 3 lead at the end of four innings.  Nunez would retake the lead, in the fifth inning, with two runs; 5 to 4. In the bottom of the fifth, Parker Autry would single to right field driving in Braxton Gallet who lead off the inning by being hit by a pitch. At the end of five, the score was tied at 5 apiece. The Bears would take the lead for good ,in the seventh, when Blaise Foote would hit a double to centerfield driving in a run. After seven innings, the Bears led 6 to 5. Baton Rouge would take advantage of some inconsistent pitching and some defensive miscues by the Pels to add two more runs to their lead.  Gavin Green would face only three batters, in the ninth inning, to secure the complete game 8 to 5 victory.

Gavin Green pitched a complete game to earn the victory for the Bears. Gavin pitched nine innings allowing 5 runs on 6 hits while striking out 11. Paul Howard took the loss for Nunez. He pitched six and a third innings allowing 6 runs on 5 hits while striking out 3.

Baton Rouge outhit Nunez 7 to 6. Nunez was credited with 1 error in the ballgame.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:  

Cameron Lewis had 1 RBI.

Karius Joseph had 1 RBI.

Blaise Foote went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 BB.

Parker Autry went 1 for 2 with 1 Run, and 1 RBI.

Cody Crifasi went 1 for 4.

William Veillon went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 1 RBI. 

Nathan Carriere went 2 for 3 with 1 Run, 1BB and 1 RBI. 

 

With the split the Baton Rouge Bears improve to 24-22 and 8-6 in conference play while Nunez improves to 13-28, 1-9.
