Bears Baseball swept by #1 LSUE Bengals

Baton Rouge Bears would square off with the national ranked LSUE Bengals this afternoon at Lee Hines Field on the campus of Southern University. The Bengals had their offense firing on all cylinders today as they would sweep the doubleheader with the Bears. The Bengals would win game one 15 to 5 and game two 18-0. The Bears struggled to contain the Bengal's high powered offense and they struggled at the plate to find that timely hit. Despite the losses, the Bears never gave up and fought till the end of both games.

Game One:

The Bears would score first but could not keep up with the high-powered offense of the Bengals as they would drop game one 15 to 5.

Baton Rouge would score first, in the first inning, via a solo homer by Sophomore Outfielder William Veillon to centerfield. The Bengals would score five runs, in the second inning, to take a 5-1 lead over the Bears. LSUE would add a run, in the fourth, to their lead;6-1. The Bengals would break the game open, in the sixth inning, with six runs. The Bears would fight and scratch across two runs in the bottom of the sixth, but they still trailed 12-3. William Veillon would lead off the sixth with a solo homer to centerfield. This would be Veillon second homer of the game. The second run of the frame would come from Karius Joseph, who reached on a walk, advance to third on a Breithaupt's single and would score when he would steal home. After six, the Bengals led 12 to 3.  In the seventh, the Bengals would add three more via a Lejeune three run homer to left field. The Bears continued to fight as they would not lay down in the seventh. The Bears would get two runs off  Nick Carriere 's first collegiate homerun to left field. Unfortunately, that was all the Bears could scratch as they would fall 15 to 5, in game one.

Couch earned the victory for the Bengals. He pitched seven innings allowing 5 runs on 10 hits while striking out 4. Christopher Courville took the loss for the Bears. Chris pitched five innings allowing 6 runs on 9 hits while striking out 5. Dane Wise and DeOnte' Dotson pitched in relief for the Bears.

LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 18 to 10. LSUE was credited for 1 error while Baton Rouge had 4 errors in the ballgame.

 

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Nathan Carriere went 2 for 3.

Cameron Lewis went 1 for 1 with 1 Run.

William Veillon went 2 for 2 with 2 Runs, 2 RBIs. 

Nick Carriere went 1 for 1 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs- 1 HR

Karius Joseph went 1 for 2 with 1 BB and 1 Run.

 

Game Two:

LSUE Bengals continued their hot hitting and solid pitching in game two. Baton Rouge Bears could not get their bats going and watched LSUE score in every inning enroute to the 18 to 0 five inning run rule victory.

The Bengals would get on the board first with two runs, in the first inning. LSUE would tact on two more runs, in the second, to take a 4-0 lead. The Bengals would score 6 more runs, in the third, off four Bengals homeruns. The Bears struggled all game to get their offense rolling. The Bengals would score 3 more, in the fourth, and 5 more, in the fifth, to take the 18 to 0 game two victory.

Rodriguez earned the victory for the Bengals. He pitched five innings allowing 0 runs off 2 hits while striking out 4. Gavin Green took the loss for the Bears. Gavin pitched two innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits while walking one. Luke Evans, Sean Burkhead, Cole Harper and Hunter Dupuy pitched in relief for the Bears.

LSUE outhit Baton Rouge 15 to 2. Neither team committed an error in the ball game.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Deionte Norris went 1 for 1.

Jonas LeBourgeois went 1 for 1.

 

With the victories LSUE Bengals improve to. 35-3, while Baton Rouge Bears fall to 21-17 on the season.

 

Next up for the Bears will be a Saturday April 10 road trip down I-10 to take on these same LSUE Bengals in Eunice at Bengals Stadium. First game is set for 2 pm.
