Bears sweep conference series with Nunez

Baton Rouge Bears earn the doubleheader sweep of the Nunez Pelicans, this evening, at Live Oak High School. Bears win game one 7 to 4 and game two 5 to 1.

 Game One:

The Bears used the long ball and solid pitching to propel them to a 7 to 4 game one victory. The Bears hit three homers in the game. 

The Bears would get on the board first, in the first inning, via a two-run homer to right field by Nathan Beyer. The Bears would add a run to their lead, in the second inning, when Karius Joseph would walk, and score when Parker Autry would reach on an error. After two innings, the Bears led 3 to 0.  Nunez would get on the board in the fourth inning via a two-run homer by H. Boudreaux.  The Bears would respond with a leadoff homer, in the bottom of the fourth, by William Dunn to right field.  The Bears would tact on another run when Karius Joseph would be hit by a pitch and score on a Parker Autry single up the middle. After four, the Bears had a 5 to 2 lead over the Pels.  Nunez would scratch within a run, in the fifth, as they would score two more runs off a T James single to left field.  Again, the Bears would respond, in the bottom of the frame, with two runs to take a 6 to 4 lead. In the sixth inning, the Bears would add an insurance run when Parker Autry would hit a solo homer to deep centerfield. After six, the Bears led 7 to 4.  Blaine Hardy would pitch the final two innings for the Bears and shut down the Pelicans to preserve the 7 to 4 victory.

Christopher Courville started on the mound for the Bears and earned the victory. The sophomore lefty pitched five innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits while striking out 3. Blaine Hardy pitched two innings in relief for the Bears to earn the save for the Bears.  Jaden Brasseaux took the loss for the Pelicans. He pitched five innings allowing 6 runs on 4 hits.

Nunez outhit Baton Rouge 8 to 5. Nunez was credited with one error in the ball game.

Bears Game One Highlights:

Nathan Beyer went 2 for 2 with 1 Run, 2 RBI and 1 HR

Lane Hutchinson had 1 RBI.

William Dunn went 1 for 3 with 1 Run,1 RBI and 1 HR

Parker Autry went 2 for 3 with 1 Run, 3 RBIs and 1 HR

 

Game two:

Baton Rouge would rely on a solid pitching performance by starter Gavin Green and reliever Peter Holden to hold the Pelicans to only one run. The Bears offense would outhit Nunez 7 to 5, including back-to-back long balls to take the 5 to 1 game two conference victory.

Nunez would score first, in the second inning, via a solo homer by H Boudreaux. This would be the only run the Pels could mustard off the Bears pitching tandem of Green and Holden. The Bears would respond, in the bottom of the frame, with three runs to take the lead in which they would not relinquish. A pair of runs came off of back to back solo homers by Parker Autry and Zach Martin. The Bears third run of the frame was an RBI single by Nathan Carriere to single field. Both teams would struggle over the next three innings to secure that timely hit to score a run. The Bears would get something going again, in the sixth, with two runs to cap off the 5 to 1 victory.

Gavin Green started on the mound for the Bears and earned the victory. Gavin pitched five and a third innings allowing 1 run off 5 hits while striking out 4 and walking one. Peter Holden earned the save for the Bears. Peter pitched one and two-thirds innings. Frank Miller took the loss for the Pelicans. He pitched five and a third innings allowing 5 runs on 6 hits while striking out 4.

 

Bears Game Two Highlights:

Nathan Carriere went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI.

William Veillon went 1 for 3.

Parker Autry went 2 for 2 with 2 Runs, 1RBI and 1HR.

Zach Martin went 1 for 3 with 2 Runs, 1 RBI and 1 HR

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI. 

Cody Crifasi had 1 Run and 1 RBI.

 

With the sweep the Bears improve to 18-14, 3-1 in conference play while the Nunez Pelicans fall to 12-17,0-2 in conference play.

Next up for the Bears will be a road trip to Chalmette, Louisiana to take one these same Nunez Pelicans in a Saturday April 3 doubleheader starting at 1 pm at Chalmette High School.
