Bears sweep Generals

Baton Rouge Bears sweep LSUA Generals this afternoon at Brusly High School.  Bears win game one 7 to 4 and game two, 13 to 5.

 

Game 1:

Game one was a back-and-forth game until Bear's outfielder William Veillon would hit a solo homer to put the Bears on top for good. The Bears took advantage of some Generals' errors, and a great pitching performance by freshman Luke Evans to earn the 7 to 4 game one victory.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first with two runs. Karius Joseph would walk, steal second and third and would score on an error by the General's catcher. Deionte Norris would single to left field driving in Veillon, who walked, for the Bears second run of the game.  After one, the Bears led 2 to 0. The Generals would respond with two runs of their own, in the second, to tie the game at two. The Bears would retake the lead, in the bottom of the second, when Karius Joseph would hit an infield single scoring Guilbeau, who reached on a walk. After two, the Bears led 3 to 2.  Again, the Generals would respond with a run, in the third, to tie the game at 3. The Bears would retake the lead with a run, in the third inning;4-3. For the third straight inning, the Generals would score a run to tie the game, this time the game was tied at 4.  Baton Rouge would take the lead for good, in the fifth inning, via a solo homer to left field by William Veillon. Luke Evans would hold the Generals scoreless over the final three innings.  The Bears would tact on two more runs, in the sixth inning, to seal the 7 to 4 game one victory.

 

Luke Evans earned the victory for the Bears. Luke pitched four innings in relief, allowing 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 4 and walking 1. Hunter Dupuy started the game on the mound for the Bears. Hunter pitched three innings, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits while striking out 4. Levi Hopper earned the loss for the Generals. He pitched six innings allowing 7 runs on 5 hits while striking out 5.

LSUA outhit Baton Rouge 6 to 5.  LSUA committed 6 errors, while Baton Rouge at 1 error in the ball game.

 

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Karius Joseph went 1 for 3 with 1 Run, 1 BB and 1 RBI

William Veillon went 1 for 2 with 2 Runs, 1 BB, 1 RBI and 1 HR

Deionte Norris went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.

Zach Martin went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.

 

Game 2

The Bears had their offense going, in game two, as they would score at least a run in five of the six innings this afternoon.  The Bears cruised to a 13 to 5 game two victory.

 

LSUA Generals would get on the board first with a pair of runs via a two-run homer by C. Dickinson. The Bears would respond with two runs, in the bottom of the first, to tie the game at 2.  Nathan Carriere would score on a Gage Breithaupt sac fly for the Bears first run of the game.  Parker Autry would drive in Creed David, who walked, with a single up the middle.  Baton Rouge would put up a crooked number, in the second inning, when Nathan Carriere would hit a double to left field scoring three runs. After two innings, the Bears led 5 to 2.  LSUA would add a run, in the third inning, but they still trailed 5 to 3.  The Bears would continue their hot hitting, in the third inning, when they would tact on another run with a single by Jake Messina driving in Zach Martin who reached on a single up the middle.  After three, the Bears led 6 to 3. The Bears would score three more runs, in the fourth, and four runs, in the fifth, to take a commanding 13 to 2 lead after five innings. LSUA would score two runs, in the seventh inning, but it was not enough to overcome the commanding lead of the Bears.  Baton Rouge takes game two 13 to 5.

 

Cole Harper earned the victory for the Bears. Cole pitched four innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 2. Dane Wise, TJ Thomas Jr. and Blaine Hardy all pitched in relief for the Bears. Bryson Broussard earned the loss for the LSUA Generals.

 

Baton Rouge outhit LSUA 12 to 11.  LSUA was credited with 2 errors and Baton Rouge had 3 errors in the ballgame.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Nathan Carriere went 1 for 2 with 2 Runs and 3 RBIs.

Creed David went 1 for 2 with 2 Runs, 1BB and 2 RBIs.

Karius Joseph went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs.

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs.

Parker Autry went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI.

Braxton Gallet went 1 for 1 with 1 Run.

Jonas LeBourgeois went 2 for 3 with 1 BB and 2 Runs.

Jake Messina went 1 for 2 with 2 Runs, 2 BB and 1 RBI

William Dunn went 1 for 2 with 1 Run.

 

With the pair of victories, the Bears improve to 13-13 on the season.

 

Next up for the Bears will be a Tuesday March 16 road trip to Bossier City to take on Bossier Parish at 2:15 pm and Centenary College JV after.  Both are seven inning games.
