Bears Baseball defeats #1 LSUE Bengals

The Baton Rouge Bears and the LSUE Bengals meet for the 72nd time this evening in the Cajun Prairie. In tonight's match it would be the Bears who would score the 12 to 2 seven inning run rule victory.

Baton Rouge scored early and often in tonight contest. The Bears would score at least a run in 5 of the 7 innings.  Freshman Deionte Norris would double to left field and score on a Nathan Beyer single up the middle to score the Bears first run of the ball game, in the first inning. LSUE Bengals would score two runs, in the second inning, to take a 2 to 1 lead after two innings.  Baton Rouge would erupt for 6 runs, in the third inning, to take a commanding 7 to 2 lead.  Sophomore lefty Christopher Courville was dealing on the mound for the Bears.  Chris held the Bengals scoreless over the next four innings. The Bears would strike again, in the fourth inning, when Nathan Carriere would lead off with a triple to centerfield and score on a Veillon ground out. Carriere would stay hot, in the fifth inning, when he would launch a three-run homer over the fence in left field. After five, the Bears led 11 to 2.  The Bears would close out their scoring with a run in the sixth. Norris would lead off with a walk, and score on a pass ball.  Freshman Luke Evans would come in to pitch in the seventh. Luke would hold the Bengals scoreless striking out 2 of the 4 batters he faced to preserve the 12 to 2 run rule victory.

Baton Rouge outhit LSUE 10 to 8. The Bengals were credited with four errors in the ball game.

Christopher Courville earned the victory for the Bears. Chris pitched six innings allowing 2 runs on 8 hits while striking out 8. Luke Evans pitched one inning in relief for the Bears. Couch earned the loss for LSUE. He pitched four innings allowing 8 runs on 8 hits while striking out 1.

 

Bears Highlights:

Nathan Carriere went 3 for 5 with 3 Runs, 3 RBIs, 1 triple and 1 HR.

William Veillon went 1 for 3 with 1 Run, 1BB and 1 RBI.

Deionte Norris went 2 for 3 with 3 Runs, 2 RBIs, 1 BB and 1 double

Nathan Beyer went 2 for 3 with 1 Run, 1 BB and 2 RBIs 

Parker Autry went 1 for 3 with 1 Run, 1 BB and 1 RBI

Creed David went 1 for 4 with 1 Run.

With the victory Baton Rouge improves to 11-12, while LSUE falls to 17-3 on the season.

Next up for the Bears: The series with the LSUE Bengals shifts to the Capital city for a Saturday afternoon game at Brusly High School. First pitch is set for 3:05.
