Bears Baseball swept by Hawks

Bears did not have an answer to the Hawks offensive attack this afternoon. The Bears lose the day's doubleheader, 16 to 15 in game one and 11 to 3 in game two.

 Game 1:

A late rally by the Howard College Hawk helps them edge the Bears 16 to 15.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first with 3 runs in the first. Karius Joseph doubles to right field scoring Foote, who walked. Deionte Norris would follow with a single to left field scoring Autry and Joseph.  After one inning the Bears led 3 to 0.

Howard College would scratch closer with a two-run homer by B Holmes, in the second inning.  After two the Bears held a slim 3 to 2 lead. The Bears would add a run, in the third, when Parker Autry would hit a sacrifice scoring William Veillon, who lead off the inning with an infield single. After three, the Bears led 4 to 2.  The Hawks would take the lead, in the fourth inning, when they put up a seven spot. After four, the Hawks led 9 to 4. Both teams would add a run, in the fifth inning.  Baton Rouge would explode for 10 runs, in the sixth, to retake the lead at 15 to 10. The inning was highlighted by a William Dunn three run homer to right field.  The Hawks would score two runs,  in the bottom of the sixth, to close the Bears lead to 15 to 12.  Unfortunately for the Bears they could not stop the Hawks offense, in the seventh, as they would score 4 runs in the inning to steal the 16 to 15 victory.

 

Trey Nordmann earned the victory for the Hawks. He pitched one inning allowing 0 runs on 0 hits while striking out 2. TJ Thomas Jr. earned the loss for the Bears. TJ pitched one and two thirds' innings allowing 5 runs on 4 hits. Gavin Green started on the mound for the Bears. Gavin pitched three and a third innings allowing 6 runs on 7 hits while striking out 5. Peter Holden, Hunter Dupuy and Deionte Norris all pitched in reference for the Bears.

 

Howard College outhit Baton Rouge 16 to 9. Baton Rouge was credited with 6 errors while Howard College had 3 errors.

 

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Nathan Carriere had. 1 Run, 1 RBI and 1 BB

William Veillon went 3 for 5 with 3 Runs and 2 RBIs. 

Blaise Foote went 1 for 1 with 2 Runs,1 RBI and 2 BB

Parker Autry had 2 Runs and 1 RBI.

Karius Joseph went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs.

Deionte Norris went 1 for 2 with 1 Run,1 BB and 3 RBIs 

William Dunn went 2 for 2 with 2 Runs, 4 RBIs and 1 HR

Jonas LeBourgeois went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 BB.

 

Game 2:

Baton Rouge Bears would fall behind early and could not catch up to the Howard College Hawks as they lose the series finale 13 to 3.

 

The Hawks would get on the board first with a six run second inning. The inning was highlighted by a W Galvan three run homer to centerfield. After two, the Hawks led 6-0. Howard College would add to their lead with five more runs in the third inning. W Galvan would double to centerfield driving in three runs to highlight the Hawks' inning. After three, the Hawks held a commanding 11 to 0 lead over the Bears.

 

The Beas finally got something going, in the seventh, when they would score three runs, but it was not enough as they would drop  the series finale 13 to 3. In the seventh, Deointe Norris would double to left field driving in Martin, who reached on a fielder's choice. Gage Breithaupt would ground out to the second baseman but Dunn would score on the play for the Bears second run. Finally, Creed David would single to left field driving in Norris. Howard College would add two more runs, in the seventh, to secure the run rule victory.

 

 

Kyler Heineken earned the victory for the Hawks. He pitched six and two-thirds innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while striking out 5. Blaise Foote earned the loss for Baton Rouge. Blaise pitched two and two-thirds innings allowing 8 runs on 4 hits while striking out 2. Luke Evans and Drew Blanchard pitched in relief for the Bears.

 

The Hawks outhit the Bears 8 to 5. Baton Rouge was credited with 4 errors compared to 1 by Howard College.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Nathan Carriere went 1 for 2.

Jake Messina went 1 for 2.

Zach Martin went 1 for 2 with 1 Run.

Deionte Norris went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.

Creed David went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.

 

With the sweep the Howard College Hawks improve to 13-4, while the Baton Rouge Bears fall to 9-12.

 

The Bears will return to action this Monday March 8 at 11 am with a rematch with the LSUA Generals at Brusly High School.
