Bears split with Jefferson College Vikings

After nearly a week off due to the inclement weather the Bears were finally able to knock off some rust and take the field versus the Jefferson College Viking at Brusly High School.  The Bears and the Viking split the day.  The Bears would win game one 10 to 1 and the Vikings would win game two 9 to 0.

 

Game 1:

The Baton Rouge Bears used a great pitching performance by Christopher Courville and TJ Thomas Jr., as well as, some timely and clutch hitting to earn the 10 to 1 game one victory over the Jefferson College Viking.

The Bears would get on the board first with a run, in the first, when Nathan Carriere who reached on a single, and would score on a wild pitch.  After one inning, the Bears led 1-0.  The Bears would strike for three runs, in the second inning, to extend their lead to 4-0. Nathan Carriere would single to left field driving in Karius Joseph, who led off the inning with a walk.  William Dunn would follow with a single up the middle driving in Crifasi and Autry. Jefferson College would get on the board, in the fourth inning, with their lone run of the game.  In the fifth inning, the Bears would add another run to their lead when Deionte Norris would single to left field driving in Breithaupt.  In the sixth, the Bears would erupt for five runs highlighted by a Gage Breithaupt three run homers to right field.  After six inning, the Bears held a commanding 10 to 1 lead. TJ Thomas Jr. would come in to pitch, in the relief, in the seventh inning and shut down the Vikings to seal the 10 to 1 Bears Victory.

Baton Rouge outhit Jefferson College 9 to 6.  Both teams committed two errors in the game.

Christopher Courville started on the mound for the Bears and earned the victory.  Chris pitched six innings allowing 1 run on 6 hits while striking out 8 ans walking 1. TJ Thomas Jr. pitched a scoreless inning in relief for the Bears. Gavyn Dockery earned the loss for Jefferson College.  He pitched 5 innings allowing 5 runs on 8 hits while striking out 5.

 

Game 1 Bears Highlights:

Cody Crifasi had 2 BB and 2 Runs.

Nathan Carriere went 2 for 4 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs.

William Dunn went 1 for 3 with 1 run, 1 BB and 2 RBIs.

Gage Breithaupt went 3 for 4 with 2 Runs, 3 RBIs and 1 HR

Deionte Norris went 1 for 3 with 1 BB and 1RBI.

Parker Autry went 1 for 2 with 2 runs.

Game 2:

Jefferson College's high-powered offensive attached propelled them to a 9 to 0 game two victory this afternoon over the Baton Rouge Bears.

 

Jefferson College got on the board first with 2 runs, in the first. The Vikings would tact on 5 more runs, in the second, to take a commanding lead that they would not relinquish. The Bears struggled to get their offense going, in game two, only managing two hits in the ball game.  The Vikings would add 2 more runs, in the six, to secure their 9 to 0 victory.

 Jefferson College scattered 12 hits while Baton Rouge could only mustard 2 hits in the game. Jefferson College was credited with one error in the game.

Charlie Pratt earned the victory for Jefferson College. He pitched 4 innings allowing 0 runs off 2 hits while striking out four and walking 0. Gavin Green took the loss for the Bears. Gavin pitched one and two-thirds innings allowing 7 runs on 7 hits while striking out 1. Peter Holden, Hunter Dupuy and Sean Burkhead all pitched in relief for the Bears.

 

Game 2 Bears Highlights:

William Dunn went 1 for 3.

Lane Hutchinson went 1 for 2.

Peter Holden pitched 3.1 innings allowing0 runs on 3 hits while striking out 4 and walking 2.

 

With the splits, Jefferson College improve to 1- 3 while Baton Rouge is 6-7 on the season.

 

Next up for the Bears will be a Monday February 23, home game at 12 pm versus the Bossier Parish Cavs.  The game will be a single nine inning contest at Live Oak High School.
