Bears sweep St. Louis Archers

The Bears finally were able to play in front of the home crowd, this afternoon, as they played a pair of games versus the St. Louis Archers at Live Oak High School.

The Bears sweep the days doubleheaders versus the St. Louis Archers. Baton Rouge wins game one 9 to 2 and game two 10 to 3.

 

Game 1

A dominate pitching performance by Sophomore lefty Christopher Courville and some clutch Bears hitting led them to a 9 to 2 game one victory.

Baton Rouge would get on the board with a run, in the third inning, to take the early lead. Lane Hutchinson, Live Oak alumni, would lead off with a walk and score on a William Veillon ground out for the Bears first run of the ball game. St. Louis would tie the game, in the fourth inning, when D Howard would triple to left field scoring P. Salazar.  Baton Rouge would regain the lead in the bottom of the frame with a run of their own;2-1. Cody Crifasi would single to centerfield driving in William Dunn, who led off the inning with a walk.

Baton Rouge would explode for 7 runs, in the sixth inning, to take a commanding 9 to 1 lead over St. Louis.  William Dunn would get things started with a leadoff single. Dunn would proceed to steal second, move over to third on a wild pitch and score on a Blaise Foote single to centerfield.  Cody Crifasi would be next up, and he would be hit by a pitch Deionte Norris would follow with a single to right field.  Both Foote and Crifasi would score on a Creed David single to left field.  Up next would-be Nathan Beyer who would reach by being hit by a pitch.  Beyer would be taken out for a pitch runner, Cameron Lewis. Parker Autry would hit into a fielder's choice but Norris would score on the play.  David would score on a pass ball and Lewis would score on a bases loaded hit by pitch of Nathan Carriere.  The Bears final run of the frame would be scored by Autry.

The Archers would scratch across a run, in the top of the seventh, but it was not enough as the Bears would win game one by the final score of 9 to 2.

Baton Rouge out hit St. Louis 7 to 3.  Baton Rouge was credited with 2 errors in the ball game.

Christopher Courville started on the mound for the Bears and pitched a completed game three hitter for the victory. Chris struck out 12 Archers with no walks. Tyler Martin took the loss for the St. Louis Archers. He pitched 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits while striking out 2.

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

William Veillon went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1BB.

Nathan Carriere has 1BB and 1 RBI.

William Dunn went 1 for 3 with 2 Runs and 1 BB.

Blaise Foote went 2 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.

Cody Crifasi went 1 for 2 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.

Deionte Norris went 1 for 3 with 1 Run.

Creed David went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs.

 

Game 2:

In game two, the Bears score early and often en route to a 10 to 3 victory over the St. Louis Archers.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first, in the first inning, when William Dunn would single to centerfield and score the Bears first run of the ball game on a double by freshman first basemen Gage Breithaupt.  St. Louis would tie the game in the second.  The Bears would get their offense rolling, in the third inning, when they would plate 2 to take a 3 to 1 lead. William Veillon would lead off with a single, followed by a Nathan Carriere walk. Veillon would score on a William Dunn single to center field. Carriere would score on an Archer's throwing error. St. Louis would score a run, in the fourth, to scratch closer; 3 to 2. But the Bears would respond with a four run fifth inning. The Bears would lead off with three straight singles by Dunn, Breithaupt and Crifasi to score their first run of the frame.  Breithaupt would score when Creed David would ground into a fielder's choice. Karius Joseph would single to right field driving in David to help extend the Bears lead to 7 to 2, after five innings.  In the six, the Bears would add an insurance run when, Nathan Carriere, who walked, would score on a Gage Breithaupt single. After six innings, Baton Rouge held an 8 to 2 advantage over St. Louis.   Jacob Poe would come in to pitch for the Bears,in the seventh, and pitch two scoreless innings.  The Bears would score two more runs, in the seventh, to take a commanding 10 to 2 lead over the Archers. Karius Joseph would single to right field driving in Creed David who reach by being hit by a pitch.  Joseph would steal third and score on a Veillon infield single.  The Archers would scratch across a run in the ninth inning off Bears reliever Blaine Hardy, but it was not enough.  The Bears would take game two by the final score of 10 to 3.

Baton Rouge out hit St. Louis 12 to 8. Both teams committed two errors in the game. The Bears pitching staff struck out 15 Archers, while only walking 2.

Gavin Green started on the mound for the Bears and earned the victory. Gavin pitched 6 innings allowing 2 Runs on 7 Hits while walking 2 and striking out 9. Jacob Poe and Blaine Hardy both pitched in relief for the Bears. Preston Salazar took the loss for St. Louis. He pitched 3 innings allowing 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 4.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

William Veillon went 2 for 4 with 1 Run, 1BB and 1RBI.

Nathan Carriere had 2 Runs.

William Dunn went 3 for 5 with 2 Runs, and 1 RBI.

Gage Breithaupt went 3 for 3 with 1 Run, 1BB and 2 RBIs.

Cody Crifasi went 1 for 2 with 1 Run, 2BB and 1 RBI.

Creed David went 1 for 4 with 2 Runs and 1 RBI.

Karius Joseph went 2 for 4 with 1 Run and 2RBIs.
