Bears rally falls short

Baton Rouge Bears overcome a 4-run deficit, in the sixth inning, but their rally would fall short as the Wharton Pioneers take the series finale by the final score of 10 to 9.

 

Another day and another hot start by the Bears and sophomore outfielder Nathan Carriere. Carriere would start the Bears scoring with a solo homer to left field for the Bears first run of the game, in the first inning. Wharton would respond with five runs off Bears Freshman pitcher Hayden Sills, in the bottom of the first inning, to take an early 5 to 1 lead. Baton Rouge would scratch closer with two runs, in the third's inning: 5-3.  Creed David would lead off the third inning with a walk, he would advance to second on a Nathan Beyer single and score on a Nathan Carriere single to left field for the Bears first run of the inning.  Carriere would score on a William Dunn triple to left field for the Bears second run of the inning. The Bears would strike again with a run,in the fourth,  to pull within one;5 to 4. Cody Crifasi would double to left field and score on a Creed David bunt single.

TJ Thomas Jr. would come into the game, in the second inning, for the Bears and hold the Pioneers scoreless for three innings. T.J would pitch 4 and a third innings allowing 3 runs on 4 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 2. Wharton would break TJ scoreless inning streak, in the fifth inning, when they would score two runs off a A. Gauthier homer to left field.  After five innings, Wharton lead 7 to 4. Wharton would add a run to their lead in the sixth inning; 8 to 4.  Baton Rouge would respond with four runs in the seventh inning to tie the score at 8. William Veillon would hit a three-run homer to left field and Blaise Foote would hit a sac fly driving in William Dunn who single to left field.

Wharton would retake the lead in the bottom of the seventh via a two-run homer by K. Fikac off Bear's pitcher  DeOnte Dotson.  After seven, Wharton led 10 to 8.  The Bears would not go down without a fight. Baton Rouge would take advantage of some Pioneers errors, in the ninth, to score another run. But unfortunately, the Bears would strand the tying run at third when Parker Autry would hit a pop fly ending the Bears rally. Wharton would survive the late inning rally by the Bears to take the series finale 10 to 9.

Hayden Sills started on the mound for the Bears. Hayden lasted one inning giving up five runs on three hits. TJ Thomas Jr., Braxton Gallet, DeOnte Dotson and Blaine Hardy all pitched in relief for the Bears. DeOnte Dotson was credited with the Bears loss.

 

With the victory Wharton improved to 5- 5 on the season while the Bears fall to 4-6.

Bears Game 4 Series Highlights:

William Veillon went 1 for 5 with 1 Run, 3 RBIS and 1 HR

Nathan Carriere went 2 for 5 with 3 Runs, and 2 RBIs.

William Dunn went 3 for 5 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.

Blaise Foote went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs.

Cody Crifasi went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI.

Creed David went 1 for 2 with 2 Runs, 2 BB and 1 RBI

Nathan Beyer went 3 for 3.

 

 

The Bears will hit the road again this Wednesday February 10, 2021 as they travel to Niceville, Florida to take on the Northwest Florida State College Raiders in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
