Bears dominate both on the mound and at the plate to sweep the Wharton Pioneers on this Super Bowl Sunday.

 

Game 2 of Series

In game one of the day, Sophomore lefty Christopher Courville threw a complete game shut out to lead the Baton Rouge Bears to a 4 to 0 victory over the Wharton Pioneers.

 

Baton Rouge would score their first run, in the second inning, when returning freshman Blaise Foote would lead off the inning with a triple to right field and later score on a Parker Autry ground out.  The Bears would add to their lead, in the fifth inning, when sophomore outfielder Nathan Carriere would hit a two-run homer to left field.  After five innings, the Bears led the Pioneer 3 to 0.  The Bears would add an insurance run, in the seventh, when Creed David would lead off the inning with a single, he would advance to third on a Nate Carriere single to left field and would score on a fielders' choice by Deionte Norris.  That is all the Bears would need as Christopher Courville would dominate on the mound and strike out 9 Pioneers enroute to the Bears 4 to 0 game two series victory.

 

Christopher Courville started on the mound for the Bears and pitched a complete seven inning game allowing 0 runs on 2 hits, with 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. Chris earned the victory for the Bears.  A. Hernandez started the game for Wharton He pitched five innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits while waking 2 and striking out 1. J. Kiddy also pitched 2 innings for the Pioneers.

 

Bears Game 2 Series Highlights:

Nathan Carriere went 2 for 3 with 1 Run, 2 RBIs, 1 HR

Deionte Norris went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI.

Parker Autry went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.

Gage Breithaupt went 1 for 2 with 1 BB.

Creed David went 1 for 1 with 2 Runs and 1 BB.

Christopher Courville pitched 7 innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits, 1 BB and 9 SO

 

Game 3 of Series

In game two of the day, the Bears again used a dominate pitching performance and some clutch hitting to secure the 4 to 1 victory over the Wharton Pioneers.

 

The Bears would jump out early via the long ball and another Nathan Carriere homerun to left field. They would tact on another run in the first when Blaise Foote would walk and score on a Cody Crifasi single to left field.  Returning Freshman Gavin Green would start on the mound for the Bears and hold the Pioneers scoreless for four innings. Wharton would finally get on the board, in the fifth inning, via a J. Ford homer to centerfield.  After five, the Bears led 2 to 1.  Baton Rouge would extend their lead in the sixth as they would take advantage of some inconsistent Pioneers' pitching and a key double by Parker Autry to score 2 more runs. Returning Freshman Pitcher Peter Holden would pick up the save as he would pitch 2 innings of scoreless baseball. Peter had his stuff working today as he would strikeout 6 of the 7 Pioneers' batters that he faced.  Baton Rouge would take game three of the series by the final score of 4 to 1.

 

Gavin Green started on the mound for the Bears, picking up the victory with a solid outing. Gavin pithed four and two-thirds innings allowing 1 run on 2 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 4. Peter Holden picks up the save for the Bears. Peter pitched two innings of scoreless baseball.  Josh Salinas took the loss for the Wharton Pioneers.  He pitched two-thirds of an inning allowing 1 run on 1 hit while walking 1.

 

With the pair of victories on the day, Baton Rouge improves to 3-4, while Wharton falls to 4-5 on the season.

 

Bears Game 3 Series Highlights:

William Veillon went 1 for 3.

Nathan Carriere went 1 for 2 with 1 Run, 1 RBI, 1 HR, and 1 BB

Deionte Norris had 2 Runs.

Blaise Foote had 1 Run, 2 BB.

Parker Autry went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIS.

Cody Crifasi went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI.

Tristan Frederick went 1 for 3.

 

The Bears and the Pioneers will conclude their series on Monday February 8, 2021 with a single nine inning game starting at 1 pm at Corbett Park.
