Bears rally for first victory of 2021 season

The Bears would rally for three runs, in the ninth, to take a 7 to 4 victory in game three of the weekend series over the nationally ranked San Jacinto Gators. Freshman Gavin Green started the game for the Bears and pitched five solid innings. Freshman Blaine Hardy would pitch 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball to shut down the Gators and earn the victory.

 

San Jac would come out the gates on fire as they would score three runs, in the first inning, off Bears freshman pitcher Gavin Green.  The Bears would respond with one run in the second inning. Sophomore Outfielder Nathan Carriere would open the inning with a walk, and he would proceed to steal second and third.  Nathan would score on a Gage Breithaupt fielders' choice. After two innings, the Gators held a 3 to 1 lead.  Bears pitcher Gavin Green would settle down over the next four innings to hold the Gators scoreless.  Baton Rouge would score 3 runs, in the fifth inning, to take a 4 to 3 lead over San Jac.  Sophomore Infielder Cody Crifasi would triple to center field and would score on a Gators throwing error. Freshman Catcher Jacob Messina would walk, steal second and score on a Gators throwing error. Sophomore William Veillon would walk, steal second and third and score on a wild pitch for the Bears third run of the inning. San Jac would tie the game at 4 with a run, in the sixth.  The Bears would not go down easy as they would score 3 runs, in the top of the ninth, to regain the lead at 7 to 4.  William Veillon would lead off the ninth with a single up the middle. Will would score on a Blaise Foote single to left field.  Tristan Frederick would pinch run for Foote.  Tristan would advance to third on a Gage Breithaupt single and would score on a pass ball. Gage would later score on a wild pitch for the Bears third run in the inning.  Blaine Hardy would come in to pitch, in the six inning, and would dominate the Gators. Blaine held the Gators scoreless while allowing only three hits and striking out six.  The late Bears rally and the dominate pitching performance of Green and Hardy would lead the Bears to their first victory of the 2021 season.  Baton Rouge would defeat San Jac 7 to 4, in game three of the series.

 

Blaine Hardy would earn the victory for the Bears. Blaine pitched 3.1 innings allowing 0 runs on 3 hits while striking out 6. Gavin Green started on the mound for the Bears.  Gavin pitched 5 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 6 hits while striking out 2 and walking 3. Matthew Tiedding took the loss for the Gators.  He pitched .2 innings allowing 1 run off 1 hit, while walking 1.

 

With the victory the Bears improve to 1-2, while the Gators fall to 2-1 on the season.

The Bears and Gators will conclude the weekend series with a Sunday afternoon game.
