BRCC Baseball  rallies late to defeat Southwest Mississippi Bears

A late rally by the Baton Rouge Bears propels them to a 5 to 2 victory this evening over the Southwest Mississippi Bears.

Baton Rouge would get on the board first with a run, in the second inning. Deionte Norris would reach on an error and score on an Alex Guilbeau single to centerfield.  Southwest would respond, in the third inning, with 2 runs to take a 2- 1 lead after three innings. The BRCC Bears struggled to put hits together for the next two innings.  They broke the game open, in the fifth inning, with four runs. Baton Rouge would lead-off the inning with back to back singles by Alex Guilbeau and Nathan Carriere.   Luke Lancon would reach on an error, scoring Guilbeau from third to tie the game at 2. Creed David would get hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Cody Crifasi would single to left field scoring Carriere and Lancon. Nathan Beyer would double scoring Crifasi. After five innings, BRCC led Southwest Mississippi 5 to 2. Tanner Young would come in to pitch in relief of Joseph Saucier. Tanner would shut out Southwest  in the one and one-thirds innings that he pitched. The Baton Rouge Bears would defeat the Southwest Bears 5 to 2 behind some timely hitting and some clutch pitching.

Joseph Saucier earned the victory for the Bears.  Joey pitched five and two-thirds innings allowing 2 runs on 8 hits while striking out 8. Tanner Young pitched one and one-thirds inning in relief allowing no runs on no hits while striking out two. Rigell Robinson earned the loss for the Southwest Mississippi Bears.  He pitched five innings, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, while striking out 5.

 

Bears Highlights:

 Cody Crifasi went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

Nathan Beyer went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

Deionte Norris went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Alex Guilbeau went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Nathan Carriere went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 1 BB

Luke Lancon had 1 run and 1 RBI

Joseph Saucier pitched 5 and two-thirds innings allowing 2 runs on 8 hits while striking out 8

 

The Bears improve to 8-9 on the season.

The Bears will be back in action tomorrow Sunday February 23 as they travel to Poplarville, Mississippi to take on #4 Pearl River Wildcats in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm at Dub Herring Park.
