Bears swept by #12 Hinds Eagles

The Baton Rouge Bears traveled to Vicksburg, Mississippi today to take on #12 Hinds Community College Eagles. The Eagles would sweep the Bears.  Hinds wins game 1; 5 to 4 with a walk off single and 18 to 1 in a game two run rule.

 

The Bears would score first in game one. Creed David lead off with a single to right field and he would score on a Deionte Norris single to centerfield. Hinds would score a run, in the bottom of the first, to tie the game at one. The Bears would regain the lead with two runs in the third inning.  Back to back singles by Deionte Norris and Nathan Beyer would drive in two runs. After three innings, the Bears led 3 to 1. Baton Rouge would add a run to their lead in the fifth inning. Dane Wise, who led off with a walk, would score on a double by Nathan Beyer.  Hinds would score a run in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 4 to 2. Hinds would tie the game at 4, in the seventh inning. The Eagles would hit a walk off single to win game one 5 to 4.

 

TJ Thomas Jr. earned the loss for the Bears. TJ pitched one inning allowing 3 runs on 4 hits. Christopher Courville started the game for the Bears. Chris pitched 4 innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits while striking out four. Blaine Hardy also pitched in relief for the Bears.

Game 1 Highlights:

Creed David went 1 for 3 with 2 runs

Deionte Norris went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI

Nathan Beyer went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs

 

In game two, the Bears struggled to keep up with the Hinds Eagles' offense.  The Bears were held hitless in game two while the Eagles pounded out 11 hits.  The Bears would score first again, when Nathan Beyer would walk and advance to third on two different eagles' throwing errors.  Nate would score on a third strike dropped ball for the Bears only run of the game. Hinds would tie the game at one, in the bottom of the frame.  The Eagles would score 5 runs in the second, 3 runs in the third and 9 runs in the fourth enroute to the 18 to 1 run rule victory.

 

Taylor earned the victory for the Eagles.  He pitched two and a third innings allowing 1 run on 0 hits while striking out five. Jordy Adams took the loss for the Bears. Jordy pitched one and two-thirds innings allowing 6 runs on 4 hits while striking out 1. Cole Harper, DeOnte' Dotson, Jalan Daniels and Hunter Dupuy all pitched in relief for the Bears.

 

 

The Bears will be back in action on Saturday February 22 as they will face Northwest Mississippi at 3 pm and Southwest Mississippi at 6 pm.  Both games will be at Pete Goldsby Field
