Delgado ends the Bears Season with victory in Region XXIII Tournament

The Bears had their backs against the wall, in game two, of the Region XXIII baseball tournament at Tulane University.  They had to beat conference foe the Delgado Dolphins to advance and live another day.  The Bears would jump out to an early two to zero lead over the Dolphins but the bats went cold for the Bears and  they watched the Dolphins explode for 10 runs to take the 10 to 2, seven inning victory thus ending the Bears 2019 season.

The Bears came out of the gates hot on offense as they would score two runs, in the first.  Luke Lancon would reach on an error, followed by a walk by Cameron Crawford. William Veillon would then triple to centerfield scoring Crawford.  Luis Marmolejos would ground out to the second basemen but Veillon would score on the play. The Dolphins would score one run, in the first inning, to cut the Bears lead to 2 to 1.  The Bears bats went ice cold as, Dolphin's pitcher Daniel Dugas settled in and held the Bears scoreless over the next five innings.  The Bears could not contain the high powered offense of the Dolphins as they would score two runs, in the second, to take the 3 to 2 lead. They would add to their lead with a run, in the third, and six runs, in the sixth, to solidify the 10 to 2 victory.

Delgado out hit Baton Rouge 13 to 4.

Daniel Dugas earned the victory for the Dolphins.  He pitched six and two thirds innings allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six. Brett Fisackerly started on the mound for the Bears and took the loss. Brett pitched five and a third innings allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out two.  Evan Becnel and Tristin Cosby pitched in relief for the Bears.

Bears Game Highlights:

William Veillon went 1 for 2 with 1 Run, 1 BB and 1 RBI

Luis Marmolejos had 1 RBI

Cameron Guitreau went 1 for 2 with 1 BB

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 2

Cody Crifasi went 1 for 3

 

With the loss the Bears finish the season with a record of 14-41. This also concluded the Bears' career of 21 sophomores and the head coaching era of LJ Dupuy.  Those sophomores include: Donavon Murray, Konner Leon, Cameron Crawford, Kendall Kennedy, Samuel Jarrell, Evan Becnel, Kolby Blanchard, Bo Barrilleaux, Tristin Cosby, Jacob Jensen, Joseph Battaglia III, William Garrett Smith, Garrison Beiriger, Brett Fisackerly, Christopher Sagrera, Mitchel Lemoine, Matthew Eskew,Trevor Benoit, Salvador Lusco, Jacob Cyr and Braxton Dufrene.
