Bears Drop Regular Season Finale to Nunez

Monday May 6, 2019: Baseball

Chalmette, LA

It seemed like a bit of Deja Vu, in this afternoon's game with the Nunez Pelicans.  The game went into extra innings again, but this time the Pelicans would walk off with the 6 to 5 victory over the Bears.

The Bears would get on the board first with one run, in the first, to take the early lead. William Veillon led off with a single to left field and he would score on a single by Cameron Crawford for the Bears first run of the game. Nunez would score two runs, in the fourth inning, to grab a 2 to 1 lead, after four. Nunez would extend their lead with one more run, in the sixth inning.  The Bears would retake the lead when they exploded for four runs, in the seventh inning. Cody Crifasi would lead off the inning by being hit by a pitch, William Veillion would follow with a single to right field and Donavon Murray would lay down a sac bunt to move the runners into scoring position. Luis Marmolejos would single scoring Crifasi.  Jordin Labruzza would follow up with a hard ground ball to the third basemen scoring Veillon. Samuel Jarrell would single up the middle scoring Marmolejos and Labruzza.  The Bears held a 5 to 3 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.  Nunez would score one run, in the seventh, to close the gap to 5 to 4. Nunez would load the bases, in the ninth inning, but they would only score one run to tie the game as the Bears' would get out of a jam with a triple play to end the inning.  For the second straight day the game between these two conference opponents would go into extra innings.  The Bears had their chances in the tenth inning but they would strand the bases loaded. Nunez would also load the bases, in the tenth inning, but similar to yesterday's game, the game would be won in walk off fashion when the Bear's pitcher would hit the Pelicans batter to walk in the winning run.  Nunez wins the conference game 5 to 6, in ten innings.

Baton Rouge out hit Nunez 11 to 10.

Frank Mario Campo earned the victory for the Nunez Pelicans.  He pitched one and one-third innings allowing zero runs on one hits while striking out one. Frank Miller started the game on the mound for the pelicans where he pitched six innings allowing one run on four hits.
