Wharton rallies late to defeat Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge Bears would score first but Wharton County would rally late to take the 6 to 5 victory, this evening at Lamar University. Baton Rouge jumped on the board early with three runs, in the first inning, to take a 3 to 0 lead. The Bears would hit back to back singles by Veillon and Crawford and add a walk by Samuel Jarrell to load the bases. Both Crawford and Jarrell would score on an error by the Pioneer's catcher. Cameron Guitreau would single to left field scoring Thomas Garber, who reached on a fielder's choice, for the Bears third run of the inning. It was a pitching duel for the next five innings as neither team could score a run. Wharton would finally get their offense going, in the seventh inning, with four runs to take a 4 to 3 lead.  They would add two more runs, in the eighth inning, to take a 6 to 3 lead over the Bears.  The Bears would attempt a rally, in the ninth inning, but they would come up a bit short; as they could only mustard two runs in the frame, thus falling 6 to 5 to the Pioneers. Wharton outhit the Bears 12 to 6.  Each team committed two errors in the game.

Matthew Oleson earned the victory for Wharton County.  He pitched two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits while striking out one. Brett Fisackerly started on the mound for the Bears.  Brett allowed zero runs on four hits over his three innings of work.  Joseph Battaglia III took the loss for the Bears. Joe pitched three innings allowing four runs on five hits while striking out six. Braxton Dufrene, Christopher Courville, William Garrett Smith and Trevor Benoit all pitched in relief for the Bears.

Cameron Crawford went 1 for 4 with 1 BB and 1Run

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 3 with 1Run, 1RBI and 2 BB

Thomas Garber went 1 for 5 with 1 Run

Cameron Guitreau went 1 for 3 with 1BB and 1RBI

Luis Marmolejos went 1 for 1

Donavon Murray had 1 Run and 1RBI

 

The Bears will return to action this weekend April 27 and April 28 as they continue LCCAC conference play against the Delgado Dolphins.  The Bears will be at home on Saturday April 27 for a 2 pm contest then the series will move to New Orleans on Sunday April 28 for a 3 pm first pitch at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
