Bears lose a pair at Mississippi Gulf Coast

Baton Rouge Bears could not control the high powered offense of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs this afternoon at Ken Curly Field.  The Bears drop a pair of game to the Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs would take game one 14 to 2 and game two 10 to 3.

In game one, the Bulldogs would score ten runs, in the fifth inning, to blow the game open enroute to the 14 to 2 victory over the Bears.  The Bulldogs would score first with two runs, in the first.  They would add to their lead with a run, in the second, and the third innings.  After three the Bulldogs lead 4 to 0.  Baton Rouge would get on the board with a run, in the fourth inning. William Veillon would single to centerfield and score on a Bo Barrilleaux single to right field. The Bears ran into some issues, in the fifth inning, as the Bulldogs bats came alive to score ten runs in the frame to take a 14 to 1 lead, after five.  The Bears would try to rally but could only score one run in the sixth, when Samuel Jarrell would double to centerfield and score on a pass ball.

The Bulldogs out hit the Bears 10 to 7 but the Bears committed four errors in the game.

O'Shea earned the victory for Gulf Coast as he pitched two innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out two. Trevor Benoit took the loss for the Bears. Trevor pitched four and two-thirds innings allowing eight runs on seven hits while striking out one.  Jacob Cyr and Salvador Lusco pitched in relief for the Bears.

 

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Donavon Murray went 1 for 2

Luke Lancon went 1 for 3

William Veillon went 1 for 4 with 1 Run

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 2 with 1BB and 1 Run

Bo Barrilleaux went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

Cameron Guitreau went 1 for 3

William Garrett Smith went 1 for 1

 

In game two, the Bears struggled on offense while the Bulldogs would score early to pull away with a 10 to 3 victory. Gulf Coast would score one run, in the first inning, to take the early lead.  The Bears would take the lead, in the second inning, when they would score two runs off a Cameron Guitreau home run to right field. The Bulldogs would respond with two runs in the third to retake the lead at 3 to 2 after three.  Gulf Coast would add to their lead with four runs, in the fourth innings.  The Bears would score a run, in the sixth, to inch closer at 7 to 3.  Bo Barrilleaux would walk and score on a Cody Crifasi single to the first basemen. The Bulldogs would add three more insurance runs, in the sixth, to take the 10 to 3 victory.

Gulf Coast out hit Baton Rouge 10 to 4, while the Bears committed five errors compared to 1 for the Bulldogs.

Jacob Roberts earned the victory for the Bulldogs.  He pitched two innings allowing zero runs on zero hits while striking out three.  Tanner Young took the loss for the Bears. Tanner pitched five and a third innings, allowing nine runs on nine hits while striking out five. Konner Leon pitched an inning in relief for the Bears.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Luke Lancon went 2 for 4

Bo Barrilleaux had 2 Runs and 2 walks

Cody Crifasi went 1 for 2 with 1 BB and 1 RBI

Cameron Guitreau went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs- including homerun

 

 

The Bears will return to action this Saturday April 20 as they will take on Galveston in a doubleheader beginning at 12 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
