#1 LSUE Bengals rally late to defeat the Bears

The Bears and the Bengals renewed their rivalry this evening in the start of a three game home and home series.  The Bears opened an early lead on the Bengals but the Bengals would rally late to take game one of the series 12 to 7.

The Bears' offense was on fire as they scored a run in each of the first three innings of the game while Tristin Cosby kept the Bengals off balance at the plate and off the board.  The Bears would score one run, in the first, when Luke Lancon led off and reached on an error and scored on a Thomas Garber single to left field. The Bears would tact on two more runs, in the second.  Bo Barrileaux would lead off with a walk and score on a Cody Crifasi double to right field. Crifasi would later score on a Cameron Crawford single up the middle for the bears second run of the inning. The Bears would manufacture a run, in the third inning, when Thomas Garber led off with a single, Samuel Jarrell was hit by a pitch and both were moved over with a sac bunt by Bo Barrilleaux. Garber would score on a fielder's choice by Mitchel Lemoine. The Bears were cruising with a 4 to 0 lead, after three innings.  The Bengals would get on the board with a run, in the fourth inning, to close the gap to 4 to 1. Baton Rouge would respond back with a run of their own, in the sixth inning, to extend their lead to 5 to 1. Cameron Crawford, who was hit by a pitch, would score on a Thomas Garber single to left field.  The bottom of the sixth was where the Bears ran into some issues because the Bengals would find their stroke at the plate and explode for seven runs to take a 8 to 5 lead.  LSUE would add two more runs to their lead, in the seventh; 10 to 5. As in previous games, the Bears would not go down without a fight and they were able to scratch two runs, in the eighth, to inch closer at 10 to 7. Cody Crifasi would walk and score on a wild pitch, while Cameron Crawford would single and score on a William Veillon sac fly. LSUE would add two insurance runs in the eighth to take a 12 to 7 lead, in which, they would not relinquish.

A. Sheridan earned the victory for  the Bengals.  He pitched six innings allowing five runs on ten hits while striking out three. Tristin Cosby started on the mound for the Bears where he pitched four innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out four. Evan Becnel pitched one-third of an inning in relief for the Bears and took the loss. Evan allowed five runs on three hits.  Tanner Young pitched 2.2 innings in relief for the Bears.

Luke Lancon went 1 for 5 with 1 Run

Cameron Crawford went 2 for 4 with 2 runs and 1RBI

William Veillon went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

Thomas Garber went 4 for 5 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs

Bo Barrilleaux went 1 for 3 with 1 BB and 1 Run

Mitchel Lemoine went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

Luis Marmolejos went 1 for 1

Cody Crifasi went 2 for 3 with 2 Runs, 2 BB and 1 RBIs

Tristin Cosby picthed 5 innings allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out four.

 

The Bears will continue the series on Sunday April 14 at 2 pm in Eunice at Bengals Field.  The series will conclude on Monday when the Bengals will travel to Baton Rouge to take on the Bears at 6 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
