Bears split series with Dolphins

Baton Rouge Bears split with the Delgado Dolphins, this evening at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium in New Orleans.  The Bears' offense exploded early, in game one, to take a lead that they would not relinquish enroute to a 7 to 2 victory. The Dolphins would rally late, in game two, to take the 11 to 6 victory.

In game one, the Bears jumped out the gates early as their offense exploded for four runs, in the first inning. Luke Lancon would lead off for the Bears and hit a single to right field. Thomas Garber would reach on an error but in the process score Cameron Crawford, who reached on a fielder's choice. Samuel Jarrell would double to left field.  Garber and Jarrell would score on a Bo Barrilleaux single to left field. Bo Barrilleaux would then steal second, then third and score on a sac fly by Mitchel Lemoine for the Bears fourth run of the inning. Delgado would get on the score board, in the third inning, with one run.  After three the Bears had a 4 to 1 lead. The Bears would strike again, in the fifth inning, when Thomas Garber would drive in William Veillon, who walked. Baton Rouge would add two more insurance runs to their lead, in the sixth inning. Kyle Pitre would lead off with a double and score on a Luke Lancon single. Cameron Crawford, who walked, would score on a Thomas Garber single up the middle.  After six innings, the Bears had a 7 to 1 lead.  Delgado would not go down easy as they would attempt a rally in the seventh but they could only scratch one run.  Baton Rouge takes game one 7 to 2.

Brett Fisackerly pitched the Bears to a complete game victory.  Brett pitched seven innings allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out five. Noah Fontenot got the loss for the Dolphins.  He pitched one and one-thirds innings allowing four runs on four hits while walking one.

Baton Rouge outhit Delgado 11 to 7, while Delgado committed two errors in the game.

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Luke Lancon went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI

Cameron Crawford went 0-2 with 2 Runs and 1BB

Thomas Garber went 2 for 4 with 1 Run and 3 RBIs

Bo Barrilleaux went 2 for 4 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs

Kyle Pitre went 3 for 3 with 1 Run

 

Game two was a battle with both teams countering the other teams runs but the Dolphins got the last punch as they would score five runs late to take the 11 to 6 victory.  Delgado would score first with a run, in the second, to take an early 1-0 lead after two innings.  The Bears would get on the board with two runs, in the fourth, to take the lead. Cameron Crawford would lead off the inning with a triple and score on a William Veillon single to left field to tie the game at one. The Bears would take the lead when Samuel Jarrell would ground out to the shortstop scoring Veillon from third base.  The Bears' lead was short lived as the Dolphins would respond with five runs, in the fourth, to retake the lead at 6 to 2. The Bears would again tie the game, in the fifth, with four runs.  Kyle Pitre would hit a two run home run to left field. Luke Lancon, Cameron Crawford and William Veillon would hit back to back to back singles scoring another bears run. The Bears would tie the game at six when Thomas Garber would reach on an error scoring Crawford.  The game would not be tied long as the Dolphins would score five more runs, in the fifth, to take the 11 to 6 lead in which they would not relinquish.

Mason Mayfield started the game for the Dolphins.  He pitched four and a third innings allowing six runs on  six hits while striking out two. Dwain Varisco pitched in relief for the Dolphins and got the victory. Christopher Courville took the loss for the Bears. Chris pitched three and two-thirds innings allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out seven. Evan Becnel pitched two and one-thirds innings in relief for the Bears.

Delgado outhit Baton Rouge 13 to 6. Baton Rouge has two errors compared to three for Delgado.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Luke Lancon went 1 for 4 with 1 Run

Cameron Crawford went 2 for 3 with 2 Runs and 1 BB

William Veillon went 2 for 3 with 1 Run, 2 RBIs and 1 BB

Kyle Pitre went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs

 

Delgado has a 6-2 LCCAC record while Baton Rouge is 4-4

 

The Bears will be back in action on Wednesday April 10 as they will take on the Co-Lin Wolves in a 6 pm match up at Pete Goldsby Field.
