Bears split conference series with the Delgado Dolphins

The Baton Rouge Bears and the Delgado Dolphins renewed their conference rivalry, this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field.  It was a typical match up between the two teams as both team would fight and compete till the end.  In game one, Baton Rouge would rally late to take the 10 to 6 victory over the Dolphins.  The Dolphins would respond and take game two 7 to 3.

In game one, the Dolphins would score four runs combined in the first four innings while they kept the Bears out of sync and scoreless during that time frame.  The Bears' offense finally came alive in the fifth inning, when they would explode for 6 runs. It would begin when William Garrett Smith would led off the inning with a walk and score on a Cody Crifasi double for the Bear's first run of the game. Crifasi would score on a Luke Lancon sac fly.  Cameron Crawford would then reach on an error and score on a Thomas Garber single to left field. With two outs, the Bears would load the bases and that's when a bit of Pete Goldsby magic happened for the Bears. Mitchel Lemoine would hit a fly ball to centerfield, in which, the Dolphin's centerfielder had some issues catching, thus clearing the bases and giving the Bears a 6 to 4 lead, after five innings. The Bears would add a bit of insurance, in the sixth, with 4 runs.  Luke Lancon would single to centerfield, Cameron Crawford would be hit by a pitch then William Veillon would  triple to left field scoring Lancon and Crawford. Thomas Garber would then hit a two run homer to left field, extending the Bears lead to 10 to 4, after sixth innings.  Delgado would not go down quietly as T. McManus would lead off with a home run to left field and later they would add one more but it was not enough to overcome the Bears lead.  Baton Rouge takes game one; 10 to 6.

Joseph Battaglia III would earn the victory for the Bears.  Joe pitched six and one-thirds innings allowing six runs on eleven hits while striking out three.  Jordy Adams pitched in relief for the Besrs and earned the save.  Jordy pitched two-thirds innings allowing zero runs on zero hits while striking out two. D. Dugas started on the mound for the Dolphins.  He pitched four and two-thirds innings allowing five runs (1 earned) on six hits while striking out four.

Delgado out hit Baton Rouge 11 to 10 but they committed 3 errors in the game.

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Luke Lancon went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

William Veillon went 2 for 3 with 2 Runs and 2 RBIs

Thomas Garber went 3 for 4 with 2 Runs and 3 RBIs

Bo Barrilleaux went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 BB

Mitchel Lemoine went 1 for 3 with 3RBIs

Cody Crifasi went 1 for 3 wth 1 run and 1 RBI

In game two, the Dolphins would jump out to an early 4 to 1 lead which they would not relinuish on their way to a 7 to 3 victory.  Delgado would score one run in the first.  The Bears would respond with a run of their own, in the first, to tie the game at one. William Veillon would hit a sac fly scoring Lancon, who reached on a bunt single. The Dolphins would score two, in the second, and one, in the third, to take a 4 to 1 lead after three innings. Baton Rouge would score two runs, in the fifth inning, to close the gap to 4 to 3. In the fifth, Cody Crifasi would reach on an error and score on a Cameron Crawford single to left field.  William Veillon would double to centerfield driving in a run. Delgado would add some insurance runs to their lead in the sixth when they would score three to make it a 7 to 3 game after six.  The Bears would go down in order, in the seventh, thus falling to the Dolphins 7 to 3.

Tanner Young started the game for the Bears and he took the loss.  Tanner pitched five innings allowing four runs on six hits while striking out two. Konner Leon and Tristin Cosby combined to  pitched two innings in relief for the Bears. Payton Russell started for the Dolphins and earned the victory.  He pitched four and one-thirds innings allowing three runs (1 earned) on six hits while striking out one.

Delgado out hit Baton Rouge 8 to 6.  The Dolphins committed three errors compared to two for the Bears.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Luke Lancon went 2 for 4 with 2 Runs

Cameron Crawford went 1 for 4 with 1RBI

William Veillon went 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs

Mitchel Lemoine went 1 for 1 with 1 BB

William Garrett Smith went 1 for 3

 

The Dolphins are now 5-1 in LCCAC play while the Bears are 3 -3.

 

The Bears will be back in action on Monday April 8 when they travel to New Orleans to continue their conference series with the Delgado Dolphins.  First pitch is set for 4 pm.
