Bears split with Pelicans

Baton Rouge earned a split of their LCCAC series with the Nunez Pelicans this afternoon, at Chalmette High School. Nunez won game one 7 to 5 and Baton Rouge would rally late, in game two, for the 8 to 6 victory.

In game one, the Pelicans would use a three run sixth inning to tie the game and take a two run lead to grab the 7 to 5 victory. Baton Rouge would open the scoring with two runs, in the first inning.  Luke Lancon would lead off with a single to left field and score on a William Veillon double. Samuel Jarrell would single to left field driving in Veillon. Nunez would tie the game at two with one run, in the second, and one run, in the third. Baton Rouge would retake the lead, in the fourth, when they put a three spot on the board.  Bo Barrilleaux would open the inning with a walk, and Mitchell Lemoine would  single to right field.  Barrilleaux would score on a single by Thomas Garber. Luke Lancon would single scoring Lemoine. Garber would score on a line out by Cameron Crawford for the Bears third run of the inning.  After four, BRCC led 5 to 2. Nunez would score two runs in the fifth via the long ball by T. Robinson, but still trailed 5 to 4. In the sixth, the Pelicans would tie the game on a double by T. Roberts and take the lead on a two run home run by M. Latino. The Bears would go down in order, in the seventh, thus losing 7 to 5; in game one.

Cameron Daigle earned the victory for Nunez.  He pitched seven innings allowing five runs on ten hits while striking out two.  Christopher Courville took the loss for Baton Rouge. Chris pitched five and a third innings allowing seven runs on eleven hits while striking out one. Jordy Adams pitched in relief for the Bears.

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Luke Lancon went 2 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Cameron Crawford went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

William Veillon went 2 for 4 with 1 run and 1 RBI

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

Bo Barrilleaux went 2 for 2 with 1run and 1BB

Thomas Garber went 1 for 3 with 1run and 1 RBI

 

In game two, Baton Rouge would rally, in the seventh, with four runs to grab the 8 to 6 victory over the Nunez Pelicans. Nunez would score first with two runs, in the second. Baton Rouge would get on the board with one run, in the fourth. William Veillon would walk and score on a Bo Barrilleaux single to right field. Nunez would add to their lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4 to 1 lead. The Bears would tie the game in the fifth with three runs. Baton Rouge would load the bases when Luke Lancon would reach on an error, Cameron Crawford would single and William Veillon would walk. Samuel Jarrell would step up and double to left field scoring all three. After five, the game was all knotted at four a piece. The Bears would score four runs in the seventh to take an 8 to 4 lead. In the seventh, the Bears would load the bases and Donavon Murray would single driving in Crawford. Thomas Garber would double to left field driving in Veillon, Jarrell and Murray. Nunez would not go down without a fight as they would score two runs, in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough, as the Bears take game two 8 to 6.

Nunez out hit Baton Rouge 12 to 10 but they committed three errors on the day.

Brett Fisackerly started on the mound for the Bears.  Brett pitched six innings allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out nine. Mason Lusco and Jacob Jenson both pitched in relief for the Bears. Dominic Curole started on the mound for Nunez.  He pitched six innings allowing six runs on eight hits while striking out four.

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Cameron Crawford went 2 for 4

William Veillon went 1 for 1 with 3 Runs and 3 BB

Samuel Jarrell went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 3 RBIs and 1 BB

Bo Barrilleaux went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

Donavon Murray went 1 for 1 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Kyle Pitre went 2 for 3

Thomas Garber went 1 for 1 with 3 RBIs

 

Baton Rouge and Nunez both end the weekend series with a LCCAC record of 2-2. 

 

The Bears will be back in action Saturday April 6 as they face conference opponent Delgado in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
