Bears are swept by Mississippi Gulf Coast

Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs used two late rallies to sweep the Baton Rouge Bears today at Pete Goldsby Field.  Gulf Coast defeats Baton Rouge 9 to 8 in game one and 8 to 6 in game two.

 In game one, Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs would score first with two runs in the top of the first. Baton Rouge would explode for six runs, in the bottom of the first, to take the 6 to 2 lead. Baton Rouge would add two more runs in the second to take a 8 to 2 lead after two.  In the first, the Bears took advantage of some inconsistent pitching by the bulldogs and some clutch hitting by Luke Lancon, Cameron Guitreau, Bo Barrilleaux and Mitchel Lemoine to score their six runs.  In the second, Cameron Crawford would lead off with a double to centerfield and score on a bases loaded walk. Mitchel Lemoine would single to left field, driving in Samuel Jarrell, who was hit by a pitch.

Gulf Coast would not go away as they would score three runs, in the fifth inning, via the home run ball. After five the Bears still led 8 to 5. Gulf Coast would homer again, in the eighth, to close the gap to 8 to 6. In the ninth, the Bulldogs would load the bases and O'Shea would double to left field scoring three runs to take the 9 to 8 lead over the Bears. The Bears would go down in order, in the ninth inning, thus losing game one 9 to 8.

Tristin Cosby started the game for the Bears on the mound.  He pitched five innings allowing five runs on six hits while striking out three. Jordy Adams, Jacob Cyr and Kyle Pitre all pitched in relief for the Bears.

 

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Cameron Crawford went 1 for 5 with 2 Runs

William Veillon went 1 for 5 with 1 Run

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 3 witth 2 Runs

Bo Barrilleaux went 0 for 2 with 1 Runs, 1 RBI and 1 BB

Luke Lancon went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI and 1BB

Cameron Guitreau went 1 for 3 with 2 run and 2 RBIs

Mitchel Lemoine went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs

 Game two was a carbon copy of game one for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs.  They would rally late to take the 8 to 6 victory.  The Bulldogs would score first with a run in the first. Baton Rouge would tie the game, in the second, with a run of their own. Bo Barrilleaux would walk and score on a Luis Marmolejos single to center field. The Bears would take  a 2 to 1 lead in the third innings when Bo Barrilleaux would single scoring Kendall Kennedy ,who reached on an error. Gulf Coast would tie the game at two with a run in the fourth and take a 5 to 2 lead after the top of the fifth. Baton Rouge would respond with three runs, in the fifth, to tie the game at 5. Gulf coast would score one run in the eighth and two runs in the ninth to take a 8 to 5 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth, the Bears would attempt a rally but could only score one run thus falling 9 to 6 to the Bulldogs.

Christopher Courville started the game on the mound for the Bears.  Chris pitched four innings allowing three runs on five hits while striking out seven. Salvador Lusco would get the loss for the Bears.  Mason pitched two and two-thirds innings allowing five runs on three hits while striking out one.

 Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Bo Barrilleaux went 2 for 3 with 2 Runs and 3 RBIs

Luis Marmolejos went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

Thomas Garber went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI

William Veillon went 1 for 3 with 2Runs and 1 BB

 

The Bears will return to action on Tuesday March 12, as they travel to Ellisville, Mississippi to take on Jones County in a doubleheader starting at 2 pm.
