Baton Rouge Splits Doubleheader with Southwest Mississippi

BRCC Bears splits the doubleheader, this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field, with the Southwest Mississippi Bears.  Southwest wins game one by the score of 6 to 4.  Baton Rouge wins game two by the score of 6 to 4.

In game one, Baton Rouge led up until the top of the seventh when Southwest scored four runs to take a 6 to 4 lead, which they would not relinquish. BRCC Bears would get on the board first with three runs, in the first innings. It would all start when Cameron Crawford would reach on an infield single.  William Veillon would double to centerfield.  Crawford would score on a Samuel Jarrell single to the second basemen. Both Veillon and Jarrell would score on a Kolby Blanchard single to shortstop.  Southwest would respond with two runs, in the second inning, to inch closer at 3 to 2. BRCC would add a run in the fourth inning, making it 4 to 2. Samuel Jarrell would double to right field and score on a Bo Barrilleux double to left field.

BRCC would run into some trouble in the top of the seventh. Southwest would open the inning with back to back singles and a fielders choice to load the bases. BRCC Bears' pitchers would then walk in a run. Southwest would then score two runs on a double by Buck to take a 5 to 4 lead.  They would tact on another run to take the 6 to 4 advantage. BRCC would load the bases in the bottom of the seventh but they could not push a run across; as they fall in game one 6 to 4.

Rob James got the victory for Southwest. He allowed zero run on one hit in three and a third innings of work.  Joseph Battaglia III started the game for Baton Rouge. He pitched six strong innings allowing only two runs. Dane Wise took the loss for Baton Rouge.

 

Bears Highlights Game 1:

Cameron Crawford went 1 for 3 with 1 run and 1 BB

William Veillon went 1 for 3 with 1 Run,1RBI and 1BB

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Bo Barrilleaux went 1 for 1 with 1 Run and 1BB

Kolby Blanchard went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI

 

In game two, Baton Rouge's bats came alive and this time they would not lose their early lead.  Baton Rouge put up a five spot, in the second, to take the 5-0 lead.  Cameron Guitreau would lead off the inning with a walk. Mitchell Lemoine and Kendall Kenney would hit back to back singles to load the bases. Kolby Blanchard would then double to left field scoring two runs. Cameron Crawford would single scoring Kennedy.  Bo Barrilleaux would continue his hot hitting day with a double to right field scoring two more.

Southwest would add two runs, in the third inning, but they still trailed 5 to 2. In the fifth inning, Southwest would tact on two more runs.  One of those runs was a homer by Steward to left field. Baton Rouge would respond in the bottom of the inning with a run of their own.  Cameron Guitreau, who would reach base on a dropped third strike, would score when Kendall Kennedy would reach on a fly ball error by Southwest's right fielder.  After five, the BRCC Bears led 6 to 4. Southwest tried to rally but the Bears closer Tristin Cosby came in and shut them down the final two innings.  Baton Rouge takes game two by the final score of 6 to 4.

Christopher Courville started the game for Baton Rouge.  He allowed four runs on two hits, in four and a third innings of work. Jacon Cyr and Tristin Cosby came out of the bullpen in relief for the bears allowing zero runs on zero hits, while striking out two and walking three.

Jack Hilton got the loss for Southwest. He pitched two innings, allowing five runs on six hits.

Bears Highlights Game 2:

Kolby Blanchard went 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 1 run

Cameron Crawford went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1RBI, 1 BB

Bo Barrilleaux went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs

Mitchel Lemoine went 1 for 2 with 1 Run

Kendall Kennedy went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 1BB

 

The Bears will be back in action this Saturday February 16 as they host the St. Louis Archers in a doubleheader beginning at 3 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
