Bears season ends with loss to Delgado

Baton Rouge struggled at the plate and in the field Sunday, thus falling in game six to Delgado 11 to 1. Delgado scored in four of the five innings played, this afternoon.  They scored one run in the first when Freeman tripled to centerfield and was driving in by a Diaz single. The big blow to the Bears came, in the third inning, when Delgado added four runs to their lead.  Baton Rouge would get on the board with one run in the fourth inning. Michael Smith would single to lead off the inning and was moved over by a Cameron Crawford single. Smith would score on a sac fly by Troy Banks, for the Bears only run of the ball game.  Delgado would tact on three more runs in the fourth to take a 8 to 1 lead. Finally, in the bottom of the fifth, Delgado would score three more runs off Bears' miscues to grab the 11 to 1 mercy rule victory.

Michael Russell got the start and the loss for the Bears.  He pitched three and a third innings, allowing seven hits and seven runs (4 earned). Mason Mayfield grabbed the victory for Delagdo pitching five innings, allowing 1 run on 9 hits while striking out 4.

With the win,  Delgado wins the Region XXIII Division I baseball championship and will advance to the South Central District regional.
