Bears can not overcome early deficit

Delgado grabs the 9 to 5 victory this afternoon, in game three of the series. The Dolphins scored seven runs in the first three innings, in which, the Bears did not have an answer for. Delgado started the scoring, in the first inning, when B. Way hit a three run homer to left field. They would add four more runs, in the third inning,  to take a commanding 7 to 0 lead. Baton Rouge would get on the board, in the fifth inning, with two runs. Jonah Overland, who walked to lead off the inning, would score when Joseph Schopp reached on an error. Schopp would score on a sac fly by Tyler Caston. Bears would scratch across three more runs in the sixth. Hunter David would lead off with a single to left field, followed by a Michael Smith single to right field. The Bears would get lucky when David was caught up in a run down between third and home but an errant Dolphins throw allowed him to score. Michael Smith would score on a ground out by Alex Courtier. Finally, Samuel Jarrell would score on a Jonah Overland double. Delgado would tact on one run in the fifth and another run in the eighth to cap off their 9 to 5 victory.

Delgado scattered 15 hits on the day compared to 10 for Baton Rouge. Delgado pitchers' Mayfield and Dugas combined to strikeout 11 Bears. 

Mason Mayfield earned the victory for Delgado. He pitched five and one-third innings allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on seven hits while striking out 6. Dugas earned the save for Delgado. Evan Becnel got the loss for Baton Rouge. He pitched two and two-thirds innings allowing 7 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits while walking 4. Brett Fisackerly and Brooks Southall pitched in relief for the Bears.

Tyler Caston went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI 

Garrett Barrilleaux went 2 for 5

Hunter David went 2 for 4 with 1 Run

Samuel Jarrell went 2 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI 

Jonah Overland went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI 

Brett Fisackerly came out of the pen to pitch three and two-thirds innings allowing 2 Runs on 7 hits while striking out 6.

The Bears will be back in action on Sunday April 29, as the series shifts back to Baton Rouge for game 4. Delgado holds a 2 to 1 series lead for the Region 23 Division 1 Baseball Title. Note: Next weekends games will be played at the University of New Orleans.
