Bears fall to Gators at Lamar

San Jac Gators jumped out to an early lead that the Bears could not recover from. San Jac defeated Baton Rouge 20 to 3, Monday evening at Lamar University. San Jac scored seven runs in the first, five runs in the second, three in the third, four in the fourth and one run in the fifth.  The Gators scattered 22 hits in the game compared to 5 hits for the Bears.  They also hit four home runs in the contest.

Baton Rouge would get on the board, in the fourth, with one run.  Troy Banks would single to left field, scoring Lee Whitaker, who walked to start the inning.  BRCC would add two more runs, in the fifth inning. Evan Vickers would drive in the first run with a single to centerfield.  Bears would load the bases and Troy Banks would be hit by a pitch scoring Alex Courtier from third.

Luis Quinones got the victory for San Jac.  He pitched three innings, allowing zero runs on one hit. Brant Garrett took the loss for the Bears.  He threw one and two-thirds innings, allowing 12 runs on 8 hits.

Bears Highlights:

Alex Courtier went 2 for 4 with 1 Run

Evan Vickers went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 BB

Troy Banks went 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs

Jared Kilcrease went 1 for 3.

 

The Bears will be back in action this Saturday April 28, as they travel to New Orleans to continue their best of seven series versus the Delgado Dolphins.  Game time is set for 3 pm.
