Bears drop two to Jones County

Baton Rouge falls twice to Jones County,  this afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field.  Bobcats capitalized on four Bears errors to grab a 5 to 3 victory in game one.  During game two, Jones used two big scoring innings to take the 11 to 5 victory.

Jones jumped out to an early two to zero lead when they took advantage of two Bears throwing miscues, in the first inning. Baton Rouge would respond, in the bottom of the first,  with two runs to tie the game. It started when Kolby Blanchard would double to right field and he would score on a Hunter David single.  David would score on a Lee Whitaker double to centerfield.  Bobcats would take the lead again in the fourth inning off a S. Matthews homer to left field. Bears would tie the game at three in the sixth inning. Garrett Barrilleaux would walk and score on a Hunter David double to right field.  Jones would capitalize on a fielding error by the Bears in the seventh to take a 5 to 3 lead which the would not relinquish.

Cooper Brune was the winning pitcher for Jones. He pitched six innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Joseph Battaglia III took the loss for the Bears throwing six and two-thirds innings allowing five runs on eight hits.

Game 1 Bear Highlights:

Kolby Blanchard went 1 for 3 with 1 run

Hunter David went 2 for 3 with 1 run and 2 RBIs

Lee Whitaker went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

Joseph Battaglia III pitched six and two-thirds innings allowing 5 runs (3 earned) on 8 Hits while striking out 1

 

Jones County Junior College scored in six of the seven innings to take the 11 to 5 game two victory. Bobcats would score one run in the first but BRCC would respond to tie the game at one,  in the bottom of the first. Seth Daugherty who open the inning with a single to left field, would score on a fielder's choice.  Jones would tact on another run in the second to take a 2 to 1 lead. Jones extended their lead in the third with three runs. BRCC would tact on two runs in the fourth inning but still trailed 6 to 3.  Bobcats would wrap up the game with 2 runs in the fifth and 3 runs in the seventh. Jones out hit Baton Rouge 11 to 6.  Bobcats again capitalized on 4 Bears errors.

Payton Harris got the win for Jones pitching three and two thirds innings, allowing two runs off of three hits. Brett Fisackerly got the loss for the Bears pitching three and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs off of six hits

Seth Daugherty went 2 for 4 with 2 Runs

Tyler Caston went 1 for 3 with 1 Run

Hunter David went 1 for 2 with 1 run, 1 RBI and 1 BB

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 2

Brandon Wild went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI

 

Bears will be back in action Friday April 13, as they begin a three game away, home, away series with the LSUE Bengals.  First pitch is scheduled for 6 pm at Bengals Stadium in Eunice.
