Baton Rouge drops two to Galveston

Baton Rouge is swept by Galveston today, 9 to 5 in game one and 10 to 0 in game two. 

Bears fall, in game one, to the Whitecaps 9 to 5 this afternoon at Bernard Davis Field in Galveston.  Baton Rouge got on the board first with one run in the third. Seth Daugherty  would ground into a double play but Evan Vickers would score from third. The Whitecaps responded with three runs, in the bottom of the inning, to take a 3 to 1 lead. BRCC would tact on another one in the fourth to close the gap to 3 o 2. Michael Smith would single to right field scoring Samuel Jarrell

Galveston would extend their lead, in the sixth, with two runs. Bears would continue to chip away with a run in the seventh. Garrett Barrilleaux  doubled to left field scoring Daugherty.  The Whitecaps would put the game out of reach in the seventh with four runs.  After seven innings, Galveston had a commanding 9 to 3 lead. The Bears would continue to fight and scored two runs in the eighth. Keith Meier came in as a pinch hitter and reached on an error scoring Jarrell and Blanchard. After eight inning, Galveston held a 9 to 5 lead and that would be the final score as the Bears would go down in order in the ninth. 

Jacob Jimenez got the win for Galveston pitching five and one-third innings allowing 2 Runs on 6 hits and striking out 6. Evan Becnel took the loss for BRCC pitching five and two-thirds innings allowing 5 Runs on 8 Hits and striking out 4.

Baton Rouge was out hit 14 to 8. 

Game 1 Bears Highlights:

Garrett Barrilleaux went 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and 1 BB

Samuel Jarrell went 2 for 2 with 2 Runs

Michael Smith went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI 

Keith Meier reached on an error scoring 2 Runs.

 

Bears were shutout in game two 10 to 0 in five innings. BRCC could only mustard one hit off Whitecap's pitcher C. Williams. That hit was by Jonah Overland in the eighth. Galveston got on the board first with two runs in the first then seven runs in the third. They added the winning run in the fifth to end the game early via the run rule.

C. Williams got the win for Galveston pitching a complete game shutout allowing only one hit. Brandt Garrett took the loss for the Bears pitching two and two-thirds innings allowing 6 Runs on 8 hits. 

 

The Bears will be back in action tomorrow morning as they include their series with the Galveston Whitecaps at Bernard Davis Field. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 11 am .
