Baton Rouge drops two to Blinn College, in a non-conference match up. Blinn used two big innings in both games to secure their victories. Bears lose game one 11 to 3. Game two was a back and forth affair until Blinn scored six runs in the sixth inning to seal their 11 to 7 victory.
Blinn would get on the board first, in game one, taking an early 1 to 0 lead. The Bears would tie the score, in the third, when Kolby Blanchard would single driving in Kendall Kennedy. Blinn would erupt for 7 runs, in the third inning, to take a commanding 8 to 1 lead that they would not relinquish. Blinn's inning was capped off by a three run homer by A. Sanchez and a two run homer by S. Blair. Baton Rouge would inch close when Keith Meier would hit a two run homer in the fourth. Blinn would add two runs in the fourth and one run in the sixth to pad their lead. Bears fall in game one 11 to 3.
Kasey Kalich got the win for Blinn pitching five innings allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and striking out 5. Joseph Battaglia III got the loss for Baton Rouge pitching two and two-thirds innings allowing 8 runs on 8 hits.
Game 1 Bears Highlights:
Keith Meier went 1 for 3 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs. He hit a two run homer in the fourth.
Kolby Blanchard went 1 for 3 with 1 RBI.
Hunter David went 1 for 2 with 1 Run and 1 BB.
Michael Smith went 2 for 3.
Game two was a back and forth contest until Blinn had a big inning again to seal their 11 to 7 victory. Baton Rouge got on the board first when Garrett Barrilleaux hit a two run homer in the first. Blinn would tie the game in the third with two runs and take a 4 to 2 lead with two more runs in the fourth. The Bears would tie the score at 4 in the fifth when Donovan Murray would single to drive in Jared Kilcrease and would later score on a pass ball. Blinn would break the tie with a Z. Cherry homer in the bottom of the fifth. BRCC would fight back and tie the game at five in the sixth when Troy Banks would double to centerfield scoring Cameron Crawford. Blinn would put the game out of reach in the sixth when they score six runs. The inning was highlighted any another Z. Cherry homer. After six innings the Bears trailed 11 to 5. BRCC continued to fight and scratched a run in the eighth and a run in the ninth. In the eighth, Troy Banks would drive in a run with a double to centerfield and in the ninth Michael Smith would drive in a run with a single to centerfield.
Each team pounded out 12 hits in the high scoring game.
Zach Smith would get the win for Blinn pitching five innings allowing four runs on six hits and striking out four. Brandon Wild would get the loss for the Bears pitching one and two-thirds inning allowing six runs on four hits.
Game 2 Bears Highlights:
Garrett Barrilleaux went 2 for 3 with 2 Runs and 2 RBIs. He hit a homer in the first.
Michael Smith went 2 for 5 with 1 RBI.
Cameron Crawford went 1 for 2 with 2 Runs and 2BB
Troy Banks went 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs.
Donovan Murray went 1 for 4 with 1 Run and 1 RBI.
Baton Rouge will be back in action as they travel to a Galveston on Friday March 30 and Saturday March 31. Friday's doubleheader starts at 4 pm while Saturday's doubleheader starts at 11 am. Games will be played at Bernard Davis Field.
