Eagles sweep Bears

Hinds Community College Eagles swept Baton Rouge Bears in their doubleheader tilt at Joe G. Moss Field. Hinds took game one 12 to 1 in a five inning run rule. Game two came down to the bottom of the ninth, when Hinds hit a walk off double to end the game at 8 to 7.

The Bears struggled to find their rhythm at the plate in game one. Lee Whitaker would get the only hit for the Bears. Hinds would get on the board first with a three run homer by S. Todd, in the first inning, to take the early lead. The Bears would scratch one run across in the third, when Seth Daugherty would sacrifice to score Michael Smith, who walked. That was the only offensive the Bears would get in game one. Hinds Eagles erupted for 9 runs in the fourth inning. The fourth inning was highlighted by a two run homer by A. Beasley and a three run homer by C. Klepzig. After four innings, Hinds held a 12 to 1 lead and that would also be the final score as the Bears would go down in order, in the fifth inning, thus ending the game via the run rule.

S.Todd got the win for Hinds pitching 3 innings allowing 1 Run on 0 hits. Keith Meier took the loss for the Bears pitching 3 innings allowing 10 runs on 10 hits.

 

Bears Game 1 Highlights:

Seth Daugherty went 0-2 with 1 RBI 

Lee Whitaker went 1 for 2. He had the only Bears hit.

 

Baton Rouge falls in game two, in the bottom of the ninth, when  Hinds rallies to hit a walk off double to end the game 8 to 7. Unlike game one, the Bears bats came alive.  It started when BRCC would take an early lead on  a  Hunter David  two run homer to centerfield. The lead would not last long as Hinds would score four runs in the bottom of the inning. Those runs came off two- two run homers by the Eagles. Hinds would tact on another run in the second to extend their lead to 5 to 2.

BRCC would tie the game at five in the sixth inning. Samuel Jarrell would single to left field scoring two runs and Alex Courtier would single in another run. 

Baton Rouge would take the lead in the seventh, 7 to 5. Cameron Crawford would double to score Joseph Schopp and Samuel Jarrell would strike again with a single to score Crawford. 

Hinds would not go away and they would tie the game again in the bottom of the seventh with two runs. The Eagles would win the game when N. Babb would double to drive in the winning run.  Final score of game two was Hinds 8 and Baton Rouge 7.

 

Bears Game 2 Highlights:

Alex Courtier went 1 for 2 with 1 RBI and 2BB

Hunter David went 2 for 3 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs. He hit a 2 run homerun in the first.

Joseph Schopp went 2 for 5 with 1 Run

Lee Whitaker went 2 for 3 with 1 Run

Cameron Crawford went 1 for 1 with 1 RBI and 1BB

Samuel Jarrell went 2 for 3 with 1 Run and 3 RBIs 

 

Baton Rouge will be back in action on Monday March 26 as they travel to Brenham, Texas to take on Blinn at 1 & 4 pm.
