Early Deficit too much for Bears to Overcome

LSUE Bengals used two big innings to defeat the Bears 14 to 10, in game two of this home and home weekend series.  After four innings, the Bengals held a 14 to 3 lead over the Bears.  The Bears did not give up and scored at least one run in four of the five remaining innings.

The Bengals scored first with one run in the first.  BRCC answered with two runs in the second inning to take a 2 to 1 lead. Jonah Overland would drive in Cameron Crawford to score the first Bear's run of the game.  Overland would eventually score on a Michael Smith single. LSUE would score seven runs in the second inning.  The inning would include a grand slam and a two run homerun by the Bengals. LSUE would then tact on four more runs in the third inning to take a commanding 12 to 2. 

The Bears would start to chip away at the Bengals lead with one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning. Baton Rouge would score two runs in the seventh inning when Alex Courtier would walk and score on a Hunter David triple. David would score on a Jonah Overland single. BRCC would score three more runs in the eighth inning to trail 14 to 10.

Brett Fisackerly came out of the bullpen  to pitch three and two-thirds inning of scoreless baseball.  He allowed 5 hits and struck out 4. Between Bears pitchers Brett Fisackerly and Trevor Benoit the Bengals were held scoreless for the final four innings of the game.

Baton Rouge out hit LSUE 17 to 15.

Brooks Southall took the loss for the Bears while Andrew Sheridan got the win for the Bengals.

 

Bears Highlights:

Hunter David went 3 for 5 with 2 Runs and 1 RBI

Cameron Crawford went 3 for 4 with 2 Runs and 1RBI

Jonah Overland went 3 for 5 with 2 Runs and 2 RBIs

Michael Smith went 4 for 5 with 3 RBIs

Joseph Schopp went 1 for 3 with 2 Runs

Alex Courtier went 1 for 2 with 2 Runs

Brett Fisackerly pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief allowing 0 runs on 5 hits and striking out 4

 

Due to rain in the Baton Rouge area on Sunday, the conclusion of this series has been postponed to Monday March 19 at 6 pm at Pete Goldsby Field.
