Bears earn victory over LSUE Bengals

Baton Rouge earns a hard fought victory over #1 ranked LSUE, tonight at Pete Goldsby Field.  The Bears defeated the Bengals 5 to 3.  BRCC's ace Keith Meier had a solid pitching performance for the Bears.  Keith would get the victory, as he pitched six and a third innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 9. Zach Hester took the loss for the Bengals pitching four and two-thirds innings, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and striking out 5. LSUE outhit BRCC 7 to 6.

LSUE would get on the board first, in the third inning. The Bengals would score on a costly Bears throwing error to take a 1-0 lead.

Baton Rouge would have early trouble trying to figure out Bengal's pitcher Zach Hester.  The Bears would send 9 people to the plate but would go down in order in the first three innings.  BRCC finally got their first hit of the game, in the fourth inning, when Lee Whitaker doubled to left field but was left stranded.

The Bengals would add another run in the fifth to grab a 2 to 0 lead. The fifth inning was when the Bears started to come alive.  The Bears would load the bases starting with a Garrett Barrilleaux single and back to back walks by Kolby Blanchard and Samuel JarrellSeth Daugherty would clear the bases with a double to right field.  Daugherty would eventually score on a Tyler Caston single up the middle.  At the end of five,the Bears were on top 4 to 2.

J. Johnson would take Meier deep, in the seventh inning, to close the Bears lead to 1, 4 to 3.  But the Bears would respond in the bottom of the inning with an insurance run. Samuel Jarrell singled up the middle and scored on a Tyler Caston sac fly.  After seven complete, Baton Rouge led 5 to 3.

Evan Becnel would come out of the bullpen to pitch two and two-thirds inning allowing  0 runs on 1 hit. Evan would record the last eight outs to earn the save for the Bears.

 

Bears Highlights:

Seth Daugherty went 2 for 4 with 1 Run and 3 RBIs

Tyler Caston went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs

Lee Whitaker went 1 for 4

Garrett Barrilleaux went 1 for 4 with 1 Run

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 2 with 2 Runs

 

Bears will play game two of this series versus LSUE Bengals tomorrow March 17 at Bengals Stadium in Eunice, LA.  Game time is 6 pm.  Baton Rouge will conclude the series at home on Sunday March 18 at 2 pm.
