Bears Baseball drops two to Jones County

Baton Rouge attempted two late game comebacks versus #1 nationally ranked Jones County Junior College but both attempts fell short on Wednesday evening at Community Bank Park.  Jones County defeated BRCC  6 to 5 in game one and 7 to 5 in game two.

 

In game one, Jones jumped out to an early four to zero lead, after the first inning.  Baton Rouge would get on the score board with one run in the third inning.  The inning started when Seth Daugherty would reach on an error by the third basemen. Kolby Blanchard would get aboard with a line drive hit to right field.  Garrett Barrilleaux would single to left field to load the bases for Hunter DavidHunter David would reach on an error by the third basemen and Seth Daughtery would score the Bears first run of the ball game. The Bears would leave the bases loaded.   Jones County would tact on a run in the bottom of the third inning to take a 5 to 1 lead over the Bears.

Bears pitcher Brooks Southall would settle in after giving up four runs in the first inning. He would only allow the Bobcats to score two more runs over the next seven innings.  Brooks would take the loss in game one but pitched seven innings allowing 6 runs on 8 hits, walking 4 and striking out 3.

Baton Rouge would begin to chip away at the Bobcats leading starting in the sixth inning.  Cameron Crawford would single to centerfield.  Jonah Overland would then hit a two run homerun to centerfield to close the gap to 5 to 3.

Jones would add a run in the seventh to extend their lead over the Bears to 6 to 3.

In the eighth inning, the Bears would score two runs to inch closer at 6 to 5. Lee Whitaker would start things off for the Bear with a single to center field.  Then hot hitting Jonah Overland would single to right field to score pinch runner Alex Courtier. The Bears would then get back to back walks from Michael Smith and Samuel Jarrell to load the bases.  Seth Daughtery would get hit by a pitch and Overland would score the second run of the inning. 

Baton Rouge would get two runners on,in the ninth inning, but can not scratch a run across.  Final Score Game 1: Jones County 6 and Baton Rouge 5.

Game One Bears Highlights:

Jonah Overland went 3 for 4 with 2 Runs and 3 RBIs.  This included a 2 run homerun.

Cameron Crawford went 1 for 5 with 1 Run

Michael Smith went 1 for 3

In game two, the Bears would get on the scoreboard first with one run in the second inning.  Cameron Crawford would single to right field then score on a Samuel Jarrell single to right field.  Bears pitcher Vincent Laurent would open the bottom of the second inning giving up three consecutive walks to the Bobcats loading the bases.  He would then give up a single to M.Morgan scoring two Bobcats.   Jones would add one more run in the inning to take a 3 to 1 lead over the Bears, after two innings. 

Jones would score another run in the third inning to extend their lead to 4 to 1.

Baton Rouge would score two runs in the fourth inning to inch closer.  Jones led 4 to 3 after four.  Hunter David would open the inning with a single to centerfield. Cameron Crawford would then hit a double to right field. Hosey Rogers followed up with a single to centerfield to score David and Crawford.

The Bobcats added 3 runs in the six inning to take a commanding 7 to 3 lead over the Bears.  The Bears would not go down quietly in the seventh inning scoring 2 runs.  Kolby Blanchard would open the inning, by reaching base on an error. Jonah Overland would enter the game and hit a single to right field.  Lee Whitaker hit a sac fly to score Blanchard. Hunter David would reach on an error scoring Overland.  That is where the Bears rally would end.  Baton Rouge falls to Jones County 7 to 5 in the nightcap.

Baton Rouge would outhit Jones County 9 to 5.

 

Game Two Highlights:

Hunter David went 2 for 4 with 1 Run

Cameron Crawford went 2 for 4 with 2 Runs

Samuel Jarrell went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI

Hosey Rogers went 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs

Jonah Overland went 1 for 1 with 1 Run
