Late Bulldog rally beats Bears

Baton Rouge jumps out to an early lead but a late Mississippi Gulf Coast rally beats the Bears 8 to 6, this evening at MGM Park. 

Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs scored first in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Baton Rouge got on the board in the fourth inning with three runs. The offense started when Seth Daugherty would get on base with a bunt single and Lee Whitaker would walk. Cameron Crawford would then hit a triple to centerfield to score two runs. The Bears would add another run when Michael Smith would single to left field to score Crawford.  After four innings, the Bears held a 3 to 1 advantage over the Bulldogs.

The Bears would strike again with three more runs in the fifth inning to take a commanding 6 to 1 lead over the Bulldogs. The fifth inning started with a Kolby Blanchard single to left field.  Blanchard would score on a Hunter David single to right field.  Garrett Barrilleaux, who walked, would score on a wild pitch by Atwood.  Hunter David would score on a Michael Smith single to left field. 

The Bulldogs comeback would start in the bottom of the fifth inning when they scored 3 runs.  After five innings, the Bears had a 6 to 4 lead. Mississippi Gulf Coast would tie the game at 6 in the sixth inning. Then B. Parker would hit a 2 run homerun off Bears pitcher Keith Meier to take the 8 to 6 lead over the Bears. Baton Rouge would attempt a comeback in the seventh inning but would leave a runner stranded at second.  

Mississippi Gulf Coast pounded out 14 hits on the night compared to 8 for BRCC.

Keith Meier took the loss for the Bears pitching 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 8 runs on 14 hits and striking out 4.

 

Bears Highlights:

Kolby Blanchard went 1 for 2 with 1 Run.

Hunter David went 2 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Cameron Crawford went 2 for 4 with 1 Run and 2 RBIs

Michael Smith went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs

 

The Bears will be back in action on Tuesday March 6 at Jones County Junior College.  The games will be at 3 and 6 pm at Community Bank Park in Ellisville, MS.
