Bears capitalized on Illinois Central five errors and some timely  hitting to take the 10 to 6 victory, this afternoon at the MGM Park in Biloxi.  Baton Rouge scored two runs in the first inning, when Seth Daugherty reached on an error, advanced on a fielder's choice by Garrett Barrilleaux and scored on another Cougars error.  Barrilleaux would score on a Lee Whitaker double to centerfield, making the score after one inning 2-0 Bears. 

The Bears would explode, in the second inning, with 6 runs. It started when the Bears loaded the bases on two Cougars errors and a single by Cameron CrawfordSamuel Jarrell would reach on a error, scoring Jonah Overland. Seth Daugherty would single up the middle to score two runs and Garrett Barrilleaux would single to tact on another run.  The big blow, in the inning, came when Hunter David hit a two run homerun to extend the Bears lead after two innings to 8 to 0.

Illinois Central would come away with only one run in the third inning, after they load the bases but Bears pitcher Michael Russell worked himself out of the jam. After three innings, the score was Bears 8 and Cougars 1.

Baton Rouge would strike again in the fifth inning scoring two runs. It all started with back to back doubles by Hunter David and Lee Whitaker. Then Jonah Overland would hit a sac fly to score David. Whitaker would eventually score on a Cameron Crawford single.  After five innings the Bears held a 10 to 1 lead.

Illinois Central would not go away scoring one run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh, including a 2 run homerun by J. Mercer.  It was still not enough as the Bears defeat the Cougars 10 to 6, in a 7 inning game.

Michael Russell got the win for the Bears while  B. Rassi took the loss for the Cougars.

Bears Highlights:

Seth Daugherty went 1 for 4 with 1 Run ad 2 RBIs

Garrett Barrilleaux went 2 for 4 with 2 Runs and 1 RBI

Hunter David went 2 for 4 with 2 Runs, 2 RBIs and 1 homerun

Lee Whitaker went 3 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Cameron Crawford went 2 for 3 with 1 Run and 1 RBI

Michael Russell pitched 6 strong innings for the Bears giving up 2 Runs on 6 Hits and striking out 4.

 

Baton Rouge will conclude their day at MGM Park with a game at 6 pm versus Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs.
