Wallace State-Hanceville uses the long ball to beat Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge falls, in the nightcap of the East Central Tournament, 14 to 3 in a five inning run rule victory by Wallace State-Hanceville Lions. The Lions outhit the Bears 11 to 3. They used the long ball to score 8 of their 14 runs on the evening.

The Lions loaded the bases in the first inning and K. Bryant hit a grand slam which gave Wallace State an early 4 to 0 lead. Wallace State would get two- two run homerun in the second inning from K. Robinson and K. Kirk.

The Bears would score one run,in the second inning, when they loaded the bases and Joseph Schopp hit a sac fly to score Samuel Jarrell. After two innings, the Lions held a 8 to 1 lead over the Bears.

Wallace State would tact on five more runs in the fourth inning to take a 13 to 1 lead over Baton Rouge. BRCC would pick up one run,in the fourth inning, when Joseph Schopp would reach on an error scoring Hunter David.

The Lions would add another run to their lead in the fifth inning. The Bears would manufacture a run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jonah Overland would walk then proceed to steal second, then third and he finally would steal home. It was still not enough as Wallace State Lions would win in five inning due to the run rule, 14 to 3.

 

Bears Highlights:

Joseph Schopp would go 0 for 1 but would get an RBI.

Kolby Blanchard went 1 for 2

Hunter David went 1 for 2 with 1 run and 1 walk

Samuel Jarrell went 1 for 2 with 1 run

Jonah Overland would steal three bases and score a run.

 The Bears will be back in action tomorrow Saturday February 24 as they continue their road trip. They will play Meridian Community College at Scaggs Field at 12 pm and 3 pm.
