Bears defeat Tyler Junior College Apaches 3 to 1,this afternoon, at the East Central Tournament. Baton Rouge used a complete game pitching performance by Keith Meier and some clutch hitting by Lee Whittaker to grab the win.
BRCC got on the board first with one run off a solo homerun by Lee Whitaker, in the second inning. Tyler Junior College would respond with a run of their own,in the bottom of the second inning, to tie the game at one. Bears would load the bases in the sixth inning when Kolby Blanchard would reach on an error, Seth Daughtery would single to left field and Samuel Jarrell would get hit by a pitch. Lee Whittaker would dive in two runs with a single to right field. After six innings, the Bears held a 3 to 1 lead over the Apaches. The Bears would hold the Apaches scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to take the 3 to 1 victory.
Keith Meier got the victory for the Bears.
Bears Highlights:
Lee Whitaker went 2 for 3 with 1 Run and 3 RBIs. This included a second inning homerun.
Seth Daugherty went 1 for 3 with 1 Run
Donovan Murray went 1 for 1 with a double.
Keith Meier pitched seven complete innings allowing one run on five hits and striking out five.
The Bears will be back in action later today at 6:00 pm versus Wallace State-Hanceville to conclude the East Central Tournament.
