Late Rally by St.Louis downs Bears 10 to 4

Bears grabbed an early lead but an offensive explosion,by the Archers in the eighth and nine inning,was too much for the Bears to comeback from, Saturday night at Pete Goldsby Field.  Keith Meier was excellent on the mound for the Bears holding the Archers to only two runs in seven innings. Meier was lifted in the eighth for Braxton Dufrene,who took the loss for the Bears, when he pitched two thirds of an inning allowing 5 runs on 6 hits including a two run homerun by McGuire Dean of St. Louis. 

St. Louis would get on the board first,in the fourth inning, when M. Dean doubled off Meier and later scored on a dropped third strike pass ball. After four innings, the Archers had a one to zero lead over the Bears,

The Bears would respond in the fifth inning with two runs to take a 2 to 1 lead over the Archers. In the fifth inning, William Smith and Troy Banks both walked. William Smith stole second and scored on a pass ball. Kolby Blanchard would single to centerfield to score Troy Banks.

St. Louis would tie the game at 2 in the seventh with one run. The Bears would again answer back in the bottom of the frame scoring two runs. Troy Banks was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a Donovan Murray double and scored on a wild pitch. Murray would eventually score on a sac fly by Garrett Barrilleaux, to take a 4 to 2 lead over the Archers at the end of seven innings.

The Archers would score five in the eighth inning, which included a two run homerun by M. Dean. They would tact on three more runs in the ninth, including another homerun by S. Lombard. St. Louis held a 10 to 4 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.  The Bears could not rally in the ninth and lose to St. Louis 10 to 4, in the nightcap of today's games.

Braxton Dufrene took the loss for the Bears pitching two thirds of an inning allowing 5 runs on 6 hits. Nick Wiley got the win for the Archers pitching two and a third innings giving up 2 runs on 1 hits and striking out two.

Donovan Murray went 1 for 4 with 1 Run

Kolby Blanchard went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI

Cameron Crawford went 1 for 3

Troy Banks went 1 for 2 with 2 Runs and 1 BB

Keith Meier pitched 7 innings allowing 2 runs on 7 hits and striking out 13

 

The Bears will conclude the weekend with a noon game against St. Louis followed by a 6 pm contest versus Co-Lin on Sunday February 18 at Pete Goldsby Field.
