Bears lose twice to Bulldogs

Mississippi Gulf Coast used an excellent hitting and pitching performance to take two from Baton Rouge today at Pete Goldsby Field. The Bulldogs took game one by the score of 18 to 3 in seven innings and game two 5 to 0. On the day, the Bulldogs pounded out 24 hits while allowing only 9 hits for BRCC.
 
Mississippi Gulf Coast got on the board in the second with ,a homerun by Parker to take an early 1-0 lead.  The Bulldogs added another run in the third inning and erupted for seven runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead over the Bears to 9 to 0.  The Bears scored three runs in the fifth inning.  The scoring started when Samuel Jarrell singled to left field followed by William Smith and Kolby Blanchard reaching on errors to load the bases. The hot hitting, Hunter David hit a double to clear the bases.  After five innings the Bears trailed 9 to 3. Mississippi Gulf Coast struck again in the sixth inning when they added 8 runs to their lead over the Bears. They would add another run in the top of the seventh to take a 18 to 3 lead.  The Bears could not scratch a run across in the bottom of the seventh thus the game ended due to the run rule. Final Score was Bulldogs 18 and Bears 3. Josh Lewis got the victory for the Bulldogs, pitching five innings allowing 5 hits and 3 runs while striking out 7.  Dillen Miller took the loss for the Bears pitching only three innings allowing 7 runs on 7 hits and striking out two bulldogs.  BRCC was out hit 18 to 6.
 
It was much the same for the Bears in the second game, they were shutout by the Bulldogs.  The Bears could only mustard three hits in game two and fall to the Bulldogs 5 to 0. Mississippi Gulf Coast scored their first runs in the third inning when Menhennel hit a two run homerun. Gulf Coast would add 3 more runs in the fifth inning and that was all Bulldogs pitcher Cullen O'Shea would need.  Cullen pitched five innings allowing 0 runs on 2 hits and striking out 7. Brooks Southall got the loss for the Bears, pitching three innings allowing five runs on four hits while striking out five.

The Bears will be back in action this Saturday February 17,when they take on Alvin Community College at 12 pm followed by St. Louis at 6 pm at Pete Goldsby Field
