Bears Baseball loses to Wharton

Wharton County Junior College got some timely hits and capitalized on Baton Rouge's errors to grabbed a win tonight against the Bears.  The final score was Wharton 9 and BRCC 2.  Wharton outhit the Bears 13 to 4 but committed one more error than the Bears.

Baton Rouge started the scoring in the bottom of the second inning, when Kolby Blanchard open the frame with a single to right field and he then scored on a Samuel Jarrell double to right field.  After two innings the score was BRCC 1 and Wharton 0.  Wharton tied the game at 1, in the top of the third, with a lead-off single by Griffin, followed by a walk by Maly, a sac bunt by Brandl and a fielders choice with a throwing error scored Griffin.   The game was tied, till the bottom of the fifth, when Samuel Jarrell lead off with a walk, followed by a beautiful drag bunt by Seth Daughtery and each advanced on an error.  We had runners on second and third.  Sam then scored on a pass ball.  This could have been a big inning for the Bears but they did not take advantage of the early baserunners and the Wharton miscues.  After five complete the Bears led 2 to 1 over Wharton.

Wharton would add three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4 to 2 lead over the Bears. The pioneers would tact on another run in the seventh followed by four runs in the ninth inning to take a final lead of 9 to 2.

Jaron Roblyer got the win for the Pioneers.  He pitched five innings giving up 2 runs on 4 hits and striking out 6.  Keith Meier got the lost for the Bears.  Keith pitched five and a third innings giving up 4 runs on 6 hits but he struck out 9 pioneers.  

Wharton improves to a record of 4-1, while BRCC falls to 0-3 on the young season.

Bears Highlights:

Samuel Jarrell went 1-2,with 1 hit,1 RBI and 1 base on balls

Kolby Blanchard went 1-2 with 1 run and 1 base on balls

Keith Meier pitched 5.1 innings, gave up 4 runs on 6 hits, 2 base on balls and 9 strikeouts

Brandon Morris pitched 3.1 innings, gave up 5 runs on 5 hits, 1 base on balls and 6 strikouts

 

The Bears will be back in action tomorrow at 10:00am versus Wharton County Junior College and at 4 pm versus Nunez Community College.  Both games will be at Pete Goldsby Field.
