BRCC Sweeps Gulf Coast

BRCC hosted Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Tuesday night for a doubleheader at Pete Goldsby Field. The Bears won the first game 10-3 and followed that up by holding on for a 7-5 victory in the night cap. With the sweep, BRCC has improved to 15-17 on the season, having won eight of their last eleven games. 

Jon Jones earned the win for BRCC in game one. He went seven innings, giving up three runs on four hits. He struck out three batters. 

The Bears offense provided plenty of support with eleven hits and ten runs. BRCC began the scoring early and never looked back. 

Hunter David started the scoring with a RBI double. After a throwing error by Gulf Coast allowed another run to cross, Michael Smith drove in the third run of the first inning with a sacrifice fly. BRCC led 3-0 early. 

Bears were back at it in the second inning. John Mauldin added to the lead with a two-run double to left. Heading to the third inning, Bears held a 5-0 lead over the visiting Bulldogs. 

Baton Rouge would add a run in every inning except the seventh. Offensive leaders in game one include: Tyler Laporte went 3 for 5 with a RBI; Mauldin went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs; Hunter David went 2 for 4; and Bo Barrilleaux finished 2 for 3. Joseph Domingue led the Bears with 3 RBI in game one. 

During game two BRCC found themselves leading 7-2 in the sixth inning, when Gulf Coast tried to mount a comeback. The Bulldogs plated three runs to make it intersting, but Baton Rouge held on for a 7-5 victory. 

BRCC recorded six hits in the night cap. Nicholas Cucci was the only Bear with a multi-hit game; he also finished with two RBI. Mauldin (3) and David (2) each knocked in multiple runs. 

The Bears are back in action on Saturday afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field. Baton Rouge plays host to Bishop State for a doubleheader.
