Bears Win Two with Late Inning Rallies

Baton Rouge Community College ended a five game skid on Friday, by winning the first two games of the 2017 Rush Invitational. The Bears scored two runs in the ninth inning to defeat Wallace State 6-4 in game one. Then followed it up with a four-run sixth inning to secure a 9-5 win over Tyler JC in a seven-inning contest.

The Bears were down early in game one, facing a 4-0 deficit after three innings. Jon Jones started the game for BRCC and finished with allowing four run on five hits and one walk in five innings.

BRCC settled down on the mound the remainder of the game. Brandon Morris and Dayton Guercio pitched the final four innings. The duo combined to allow one hit and strike out six to silence the Wallace State bats.

With the game tied at four to start the ninth inning. BRCC led off with two triples. Hunter David tripled to centerfield and would then score when Michael Smith tripled to right field. Smith would later score on a pass ball to give the Bears the winning 6-4 margin.

Aidan Hodges went 2 for 4 with a RBI. He also scored two runs.

Nicholas Cucci went 2 for 2 with 2 RBI.

In the night cap, BRCC found themselves tied at five in the top of the sixth inning before pulling away. The rally began with Bo Barrileaux single, followed by a Zachary Buster walk.

After Daugherty would load the bases, Barrileaux scored on a throwing error by the Tyler pitcher.

Later in the inning, Joseph Domingue would double to with the bases loaded. Buster and Daugherty would scored to provide the winning margin of 9-5.

BRCC plays two more game today in the Rush Invitational. The Bears face Wallace State at 4:30 pm, followed by a game against East Central at 7:30 pm.
