Bears Earn Split on Day One of Tournament of Champions

BRCC traveled to Houston, TX to take part in the Tournament of Champions, hosted by San Jacinto College. Day one featured games against McClennan Community College and Navarro College. 

The Bears lost to McClennan 5-2 to open the tournament. BRCC was outhit by the Highlanders ten to five, with Aidan Hodges having three hits, a double and two singles, for Baton Rouge. 

Joseph Domingue and Michael Smith each knocked in an RBI in the loss. 

Jon Jones took the loss for BRCC. Jones pitched 4 2/3 inning, surrendering seven hits and five runs. He struck out three and walked two in his outing. 

In game two, BRCC was down 4-0 when they came to the plate in the top of the fifth inning. Hodges would lead things off with a single to right field. Charles Belair would single to center, followed by a bunt single from Zachary Buster. The Bears would have the bases loaded. 

Tyler Laporte reached by due to an error, everyone was safe and the first run was scored for BRCC. Bo Barrileaux would single to right field scoring another run. With the bases still loaded, John Mauldin doubled, scoring two more runs.

The Bears would add one more run to make it five runs scored in the inning. BRCC now led 5-4. 

Baton Rouge would load the bases again in the sixth inning. Laporte drove in two more runs when he hit into a fielder's choice. BRCC now led 7-5. 

BRCC would add a couple insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings, including a solo, home run by Domingue. After it was all said and done, Baton Rouge rallied from an early four-run deficit to out score Navarro College 9-6.

BRCC is back at it on Saturday evening in the Tournament of Champions. The Bears face North Central Texas College at 7:30 pm.
