Bears and Warriors Split Doubleheader

Baton Rouge and East Central split a doubleheader on Tuesday evening. The Warriors won a high scoring, four hour long game one by a score of 19-17. BRCC bounced back in game two and won in walk-off fashion by scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure a 5-4 victory.

In game one, BRCC started with a bang, three of them in fact, by hitting back to back to back home runs in the first inning. Baton Rouge led the majority of the ball game, but squandered a couple different leads (9-3 and 13-9). The Bears gave up five runs in each of the eighth and ninth innings to see the ball game slip away.

Game two was a completely different ball game. The fast paced seven inning affair, saw BRCC leading 4-2 heading into the seventh inning. East Central tied the game with a two-run home run before the Bears came to bat.

With two outs, Devin Bailey drew a walk and later stole second. East Central was trying to send the game to extra innings, but the ball got a away from the Warriors on a throw to first and Bailey scored from second base to split the early season series. 

Bear Notes (Game 1):
  • McKay Mouton went 2 for 4 (HR, single) with a walk.
  • Kevin Vanasselberg went 3 for 3 (HR, 2 singles). He also walked three times and had 3 RBI's.
  • John Mauldin went 4 for 6 finishing with a home run and three singles. Mauldin had three RBI's.
  • Layton Laird had 2 singles and 4 RBI's.
Bear Notes (Game 2):
  • Landyn Ragan pitched 6 2/3 innings. Ragan gave up 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits. He also struck out six Warriors and issued three walks. He earned a no decision. 
  • Jesse Nigro earned the win by pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up no hits or runs. 
  • Tyler Laporte finished with three singles and 2 RBI's.
  • Kevin Gueniot added two- RBI singles. 
  • Mauldin and Laird were the only other Bears to record a hit in game two (both singles). 
Baton Rouge is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Jones County Junior College for a doubleheader.
