Baton Rouge Community College opened the 2016 season with a doubleheader against Panola College. The Bears dropped both games to the visiting Ponies in contrasting styles. Game one was a high scoring affair that ended with a 13-8 score in favor of Panola. In the second game, BRCC was in a hole early and lost 6-1.
Bears Notes (Game 1):
- Panola had 15 hits.
- BRCC managed 11 hits and committed two errors.
- Layton Laird started the Bears scoring with a 2-run home run.
- Devin Bailey went 2 for 5, including a triple, with 2 RBIs.
- McKay Mouton recored 2 RBIs after going 2 for 4.
- Kevin Vanasselberg had a double and a triple as he went 3 for 4.
Bear Notes (Game 2):
- Baton Rouge managed five hits; Panola finished with seven.
- BRCC committed three errors.
- Transfer Chase Martin was the losing pitcher during the seven inning contest.
- Blake Buller finished 1 for 2, with a double.
- Nick Ourso recorded the only RBI for BRCC and finished 1 for 3.
Baton Rouge will try to avoid the sweep tomorrow afternoon when the two teams meet for game three. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
